Studio not so much...live he can still inspire...EP Once in a while…the quiet roar.
And here are a couple of tunes from the quiet…
Track 1 - Dreamer… Lyrically relevant and jimi-esque electric 2015
Track 2 - Whole of the Moon… Man shows interpretation and Slaps that Bass 2015
Track 3 - Days of Wild (extended)… Old recording – an opus of Funk 1994
Also enamoured with the reworkings of:
Always in my hair 2014
Does not compute 2014
Prince, for all his studio failings...is the amazing at live reinvention.
I guess that is why, for me (apart from the early studio work) he is so enduring.
I would be grateful to share such a top three --- (I appreciate DOW is 94 but I only got the extended silly long version recently - so please go easy) [Edited 8/11/15 17:53pm] ~Shakalaka!~..... ~Mayday!~

Frankly, I think his best concerts have been in the last 15 years. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

Agreed - I have been fortunate to see P live frequently since Wembley 86, pretty much through. Lovesexy Wembley - "Liberace on acid" Nude was OK - mainly for the introduction of QofU D&P was awful for me Emporium - amazing Cafe DP...mmm Nothing until ONA - which was a great re-introduction (how such an enigma can be so accessible) Gutted I missed Musicology Saw loads of Vegas - which somewhat spelled a decline Hop Farm - one off Wished I saw both stints at Montreux And North Jazz And Electric Ballroom Apollo was surreal
What would be your 3 song recent live EP?

I still prefer his studio work over live shows but am impressed with the way he brings a new face to old songs (LRC). The unreleased studio/rehearsal versions of Something in the Water have so much painful emotion in them that it would be impossible for any recent live version to even come close since he's so far removed from that inspiration of heartbreak. - As others have said, it's baffling why he doesn't officially release some of his most praised live shows such as Montreux. The only part of the live shows I'm forced to edit is when he repeatedly yells for the house lights to be adjusted. It ruins the mood/flow!

I agree about "something" - the piano rehearsal version that surfaced a couple of years back is stirring.
The rework of LRC - slow down...again brings new life to the song - the only other version I care for is the 12" dance mix (signature!).
But I do have "Always Hair" 2014 now on loop as for me it has been revitalised...I think my vinyl 12" is worn out!
And "whole of the moon" - I would be proud to play anybody.
Agreed - some of te showmanship is predictable..."to many hits", "play until morning"...blah blah...I think it was a bad habit he picked up in Vegas

The end-all Dreamer is the 20ten Nice (France) live version. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

. Puh-lease! You must be kidding. Listen to the 1993 versions first before even bringing up a shitty remake like the recent versions are. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

"Lovesexy" was the last of his albums I really liked, and even then I felt that it was patchy as hell (first side great, second side not so), and since then there are albums of his I've only listened to but not bought because they did nothing for me at all - AOA, PE, Lotusflower / MPLSound for example. Live however, I'd drop everything and run to see the guy. He's still the best live performer around in my opinion.

As much as I like the 1993 version (the Rock Over Germany soundboard is awesome) I think the 2014 version is better. I love the break down section at the end with the 'always' chants.

The difference is his last 15 years he has had bands that support PRINCE teh entertainer/musician as opposed to Prince as part of an actual band. One of the things that I really enjoy(ed) about The Revoultion and to some degree the Lovesexy band is that feel that they are working together instead of it being Prince and TOPOS (the other people on stage).

Thanks for the recommendations UDO…I have now had the chance to listen to both the Nice 2010 “Dreamer" and the Rock Over Germany “SAIMH”
Nice 2010 – Is faster in tempo and has a killer guitar solo – but I do like the Baltimore version, as the slower tempo and rolling bass lends itself to the lyrics really well…plus the Baltimore backdrop gives it some added poignancy
But Nice is indeed excellent.
“SAIMH” Rock Over Germany…I’m sticking with the Montreux 2014…I love the faster bridge tempo with the drums breaking down into the slower melodic guitar – and as mentioned by Dodger the whole “always” chant…plus it is great to give a girl head to!
I think the Rock Over Germany is more closer to a "live" version of the studio recording.

I would say the musicology tour was the most recent time that the band was truly part of the show at nearly the same level as Prince. Candy, Maceo, and Greg were great horn players. Candy especially had a grew stage presence with Prince. John Blackwell's flashy drumstick-spinning solos were a treat, and his playing is great. Rhonda, Mike Scott, and Renato were lesser parts, but even they did their thang on the stage. That was such an amazingly fun tour. "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"
