The Who Replaced Prince at Glastonbury 2015 According to their site: "(Not many know that we were a last-months addition to the show, replacing Prince who decided not to come this year.)" http://thewho.com/28-june...-somerset/ http://www.u.tv/Entertain...bury-40760

Prince is messing with them. They should think about what kind of fee they would offer him.... and then double it, because if he did it, it would go down as THE greatest Glastonbury performance of all time. |

I would love prince to do Glastonbury. And put in a great Prince performance. Before he gets too old to put in the kind of performance we know he is capable of.It would blow peoples mind. But he seems to have fallen out with them .Also he would never allow them to show his full concert.Unless they paid him massive bucks.

Prince's reason for not doing Glastonbury is often assumed to be money but the following may also be factors: - the televisation of Glastonbury performances - everyone who's anyone seems to do Glastonbury, maybe he doesn't want to conform.

How can you replace someone who never committed to come in the first place?

I think it's the tv broadcast that he has issues with - which is stupid, as it would bring his music to such a wide new audience... But it's his call

It is pretty backward thinking if it's about it being televised. A captive fucking audience live or on iplayer potentially into every home in the country. And if he kills it. Which he would, he'd hook in a fuckload more fans and sales of his albums, purple rain and the hits at the very least. Comin str8 outta Preston...

This. Prince doing Glastonbury has no down side. He'd kick ass and get a lot more fans - it's probably the best and most assured way in which he could. The only thing he could do, is capitalise on it more by coinciding it with an album release. Hundalasiliah!

I've seen Prince 14 times across two continents playing with lots of different bands.
The best show - by far - was with 3rd Eye Girl.
9th February 2014, Shepherd's Bush.
3rd Eye Girl are more than capable of delivering the greatest Glastonbury performance ever.
btw, I also know a thing or two about Glastonbury - back in 2007 my band were listed as one of the Top Five acts to see at the whole festival by The Guardian's official miniguide that everyone at the festival is given. |

I so wish I agreed with you. If it was the 2002 or 2004 shows, it would be. For some of the 3EG shows of 2013/14 it would be. But if we get an NPG show with 25 minutes of Prince Sampler Karaoke and Shelby shouting Put Your Hands Up at the top of her lungs, it would be an ok but very inconsistent performance.
At big shows, he tends to be much more the entertainer and much less the serious musician. At the Essence festival, he sleepwalked his way through a good show that could have been so much better. On "Controversy" for example, he was doing his trademark screams over and over, hyping the crowd up leaving out most of the lyrics. Prince is the greatest live performer who ever lived, but even the greatest going through the motions is still not good enough.

Glastonbury is a rock festival more than anything else. If he went there, he should do a show that's halfway between the "Hit & Run Part 1" shows like the one I saw at Shepherd's Bush, and the "Hit & Run Part 2" arena shows where Josh and Cassy were with them. Plus a small horn section, and a couple of suitable covers (like when he did "Creep" at Coachella).
Prince knows how to put a set together to suit the show.
I just think for Essence, he ought to have had John Blackwell on drums. Mike Scott on guitar, maybe.

I've seen 3EG 5 times now and they're just not up to the standard one comes to expect from Prince. Yes, they're a rock band, but not a particularly good one. The NPG he had for the Musicology tour, for example, were more than capable of delivering rock to the same standard, if not better, than 3EG. The difference is of course, the NPG weren't limited to that one genre. Any session musician worth their salt (especially the world class players P hires) can play rock to the standard of 3EG, which is average at best. The only thing 3EG bring to the table is limits. John Blackwell, Renato, Rhonda, Maceo Parker? Hot damn son! That's the standard Prince's music deserves. I'm tired of him having to shoehorn his incredible music into a rock outfit. I got two sides... and they're both friends.
