Prince has been having a pretty good career without penning a hit for two decades during which he seemed to alternate between trying to have more mass appeal again and just composing as he sees fit. Even his idea of what should be a hit on the radio if evil forces did not conspire to keep him off the charts has become a form of personal expression, he's doing what he wants and this song is a great example of his spirit and imagination -- there are not too many people who can claim to have such a creative drive over such a long period. And for all we know, he might very well still be on a stage somewhere 25 years from now, when some of us will already be gone.

Shame there is no vid yet. This song is so visual that I have already seen the vid in my head and it's sick sick sick. Prince needs to make a hot video to compliment this song. It could be HUGE! Can't u see him rocking on stage in blue lights and the rest of the club he's playing to is in slow motion and out of focus. All we see in focus is the girl he's singing to. And she is sopping up all of his hot rock with her body. While he is just tearing up his guitar. Mmm... It could be HOT I wish u heaven

Anyone have an idea if this is going to be on the possible new album in the summer or just another on off release?

This song better be on his next album. This song is just too good to be treated as a non album single that will fade away into oblivion. Purple Music is my drug and I'm jonesin!!!!!

Heard for the first time the other day..(ironically on a heavy metal site)..I dig it!..the metalheads seem to like it too. ...very mysterious and musical jam.

The song is resonating across multiple formats. We shall see how it ends up.. I am thinking very positively

All it needs now is a bangin' hot video. Please Prince, this could be us but you been screwing us over with these lyric videos. Its time for you to be in a music video with a theme...Cmon, PLEASE.... This Could Be Us But U Be Playin...

. Calm down. Take your little pill. Do not get over excited as that would disturb the peace. This song will be forgotten next week as mr.Prince has no real plan. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

I will wait till there's an album like I did with AOA. I still haven't bought plectrum. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Cash appealed to an audience that worshipped nostalgic "Americana" simple folk music and was propped up by Rick Rubin (overrated theft artist) on "covers" projects. Prince is still a vital musical force with his own unique vision.

I'm no Johnny Cash fan, but that is some bullshit. There's nothing simple about folk music. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

First off dont feed loser trolls! (ie anything bart says)
Second a video as cool as it sounds is not such a great idea coming from Prince. His record of "hot" videos is less then stellar
Instead he needs to show up on The Tonight Show and perform this song live!!! That will get it noticed!
[Edited 7/8/15 6:26am] The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Or, we could just want the music. Groovy Potential isn't on an album... and that's my jam! Me thinks you does protest too much. I'll whisper this secret, Get laid and be happy. You're welcome.

I don't understand why so many Prince fans here are so obsessed with album sales and charts and radio and blah blah blah. Does your enjoyment of the music change based on whether other people listen to it also? I love AOA, hate Planet Earth, enjoy Musicology, etc, all based on my own opinions. I don't give a shit whether others buy those albums. Moreover, look at the crap that's popular these days. There's so much garbage. Do you think the people who like that shit are suddenly going to like Prince? Would you even want them to?! Prince's best shot at chart success (to the extent that exists) would be if somehow all the people who bought his classic 80's albums suddenly felt compelled to buy new Prince music. And that's not going to happen. Instead of focusing on sales, we should focus on Prince's artistic achievement and his legacy. It's ART that matters, not sales. And we can have healthy debates on whether the art is moving in the direction we individually feel is right. TL:DR Fuck sales. Go listen to Beyonce if album sales is what you care about. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Further to your point, it will be forgotten by its limited press coverage--not by the general public, because you can't forget something you were never made aware of. มีเพียงความว่างเปล่า 只有空虚 Dim ond gwacter 만 공허함이있다 唯一の虚しさがあります There is only the void.

67 year old James Taylor is charting on the AC charts with his latest single. Also, this whole concept of not listing to someone because of thier age is so stupid. Imagine we did the same thing with actors, directors, writers, etc. Why is music so different. It's not even like people are listening to something drasticly different. It's so stupid that Uptown Funk blew up while Prince can't get his music played. Uptown Funk is really no different than the people who charted in the 80s trying to sound like Prince.
Why do people care about chart success. There are a couple of reasons. For one, it influences what we get to hear and how we get to hear it. The purple rain remasters were likely a victim of lack of sales of AOA and PE last year. The full length 3121 full length movie was a victim of lack of sales of 3121.
The other reason is generations of people are missing his music. It would be kind of nice if when I told someone I listen to Prince that they had some idea who I was even talking about.
