Baltimore I listened to this song for the second time today and I remembered all the negativity this song got and I don't get it.
1. This song was thought of, composed, recorded and released in like 3 days. How many other songs about Baltimore are out there right now? Maybe in the months to come there will be more. But Prince in a few days wrote and released a song. Now granted it is no Computer Blue but he spent months getting that jank right.
2. Baltimore is essentially a demo and it is better than songs like By Alien Means and Moonbeam Levels. It is a laid back song that Prince is know for. I love the ending to the song "No justice means no peace" and the guitars along with it.
3. If any other aritst put out a song after working on it for a few hours like Prince did it would not sound nowhere as good as this. This song is a testament to how great Prince is, in a matter of days he composed a song that people could enjoy and connect with, yes us orgers will hate on it, but let's see Bruce Springsteen or Radiohead compose something as coherent in a few days.

Baltimore is fine, but you kind of lost me at "it's better than Moonbeam Levels." Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. More info at https://www.facebook.com/TMATSPodcast/

I'm not really all that impressed by the song. It's competent, but not much more. And Prince is enough of a craftsman that almost everything he does is competent. However, as with S.S.T., he got something out quick when he wanted to respond to a topical issue. Yes, it takes most people longer--but it probably should have taken him a bit longer, too. But this is a man who routinely goes in and knocks out 4 or 5 tracks in a day, most as good or better than this one. . However, on a different subject, I noticed your link for the first time--interesting looking blog. I look forward to reading what you're saying on it.

The fleshed out version with strings is nice this is the type of song that gets record of year nominations. Its already topped two best of 2015 polls so far

Please do check the blog out and leave me some comments on how to improve it. I welcome criticism. On another note I just don't like Moonbeam Levels...

the fact that you you listened to it for only the second time today after it's been out for 2 months says more about its quality than anything else you typed here. [Edited 7/7/15 20:49pm]

I'm getting a little tired of people saying "do you know any other artist who..." as if music is some sort of competition where the one who writes and records the fastest or plays the most instruments or sells the most tickets, wins. Leonard Cohen once told Bob Dylan that it took him a year to write Hallelujah, to which Dylan replied that he wrote I And I in fifteen minutes. (And Hallelujah really is the better song.) And Dylan once recorded an entire album in one evening. So Prince really isn't the only one who can work fast. And I don't care about that! I want good music, I don't care about the rest. If you want to write about serious issues, then take it seriously. Take your time, think it through and come up with something better than "let's take all the guns away" and "time to hear the guitar play". Having said all of that, while Baltimore isn't great, it's not bad either. It has a nice sound and I can still sing the title Baltimohohore...in my head.

I've only listened to it twice because I recently discovered the 34 discs of the Work It! collection. I went through all those songs and since have listened to Moonbeam Levels once in comparison. I'm not saying B-more is some life changing song, it's a song that speaks about an issue near to my heart and the music is pretty good. It's no Hallelujah for sure but not every song can be. I'm glad Prince didn't spend a lot of time on the song. If he had we'd all be bemoaning about all the overdubs he put on it. And it's my crack I can smoke it if I want!!!

BAltimore has a really nice groove to it that I like a lot. And the reworked version lifts the song even further. It sounds good live too.

You can't be serious. Please go back and listen to Prince's catalog to get some perspective and then try to justify how this throwaway piece of nonsense is even remotely good. Some people's standards and levels of expectations for Prince have really hit rock bottom. The song is terrible on so many levels. Let it go.....

I don't like the song but I bought it off Amazon just now just because of all unreleased material I have.

I DL'ed it a while back, but got the official release off iTunes. Like the song overall, but there are a couple of lyrics that really run counter to my beliefs and are quite jarring to hear.
