Synth Sound Purple Rain/ATWIAD Era There is a synth sound that I first heard on the live version of "I Would Die 4 U" 12" at the 0:02-0:05 mark, right after he counts off. Then I heard it on the "Purple Rain Tour" right after "The Beautiful Ones" segues into the guitar intro for "When Doves Cry". Also it can be heard on the "Condition Of The Heart" intro around the 1:32-1:40 mark. The last song I heard on it was "She's Always In My Hair" at the 0:02-0:05 mark. Can anyone tell what kind of synth sound this is? It has a weird rising effect that sort of gets a a bigger sound towards the end. Does anyone know how to re-create a sound like this? All of your input is greatly appreciated. I believe in voices coming from the stereo......I believe in Rock-N-Roll!!!

Cool that you noticed it in all those songs - I never picked up on it in the last two until I went back and listened. It is definitely a DX FM sound, probably a stock sound from one of the cartridges. [Edited 7/2/15 21:53pm]

It is a Yamaha DX7
ROM 4-B COMPLEX SOUND & EFFECTS GROUP Patch #30. The sound patch is called "GOTCHA" Here is a sample: http://www.synthmania.com...TCHA...mp3 On Prince's recordings, they hold the key down a little longer to develop the full effect. [Edited 7/3/15 7:03am]
