I'm sure his lawyer will be sending Used Record Store notices soon to stop selling used copies of his music

Wrong. I do own the CDs and with that ownership comes a license to listen to them as much as I want as long as I'm able.

.

For the moment, sure. But the record industry doesn't like that at all. Example: http://boingboing.net/201...uling.html

The music industry did once try to battle those stores.

Could Prince make things any harder for people to discover and listen to his music?

.

The other day I wanted to listen to certain Prince albums that aren't available anywhere. So I went through boxes in storage to find this or that. In an on-demand streaming content world, searching for particular songs/discs seems pretty tedious.

.

Sometimes I want to watch some Prince Live on YouTube. It's like Prince doesn't exist. At least there's While My Guitar Gently Weeps which seems to be a constant on YouTube and people can see how great a guitarist Prince is on that.

.

It sucks how ephemeral Prince's work has become. If something happens to your Prince collection... have fun getting all of that stuff again!

This is why I have my collection backed up on four different cloud services. If anything happens to my iTunes library, it's easy to recreate. Plus, I can stream or download the stuff I've uploaded. No need to put up with Prince pulling all his shit from streaming services.

I guess he didn't listen to Smokey Robinson on the B.E.T. Awards saying to respect your fans, don't be up yourself, it's your FANS that put you where you are, who make you. It's sad that some kids out there who maybe can't afford to buy all of his back catalogue, who may be interested in listening to him,or watching him, can't do either. It's all about the money to this guy now. Has been for a long time. But there will always be certain people who agree with everything he does in his life, his farts are 'masterpieces'.Oh, and 'Hardrocklover' is about as hard rock as my 70 year old dad sitting farting watching 'bargain hunt'.

He'll be suing them next. On the grounds they're helping you not have to pay him to listen to his music. razz I bought my own damn personal cloud for just such an emergency, he'll just have to brownnose

I mean, it's obvious what's going on here.....Prince has the same gripes Taylor Swift did with Spotify and Apple (until they caved in)....But Prince being Prince, he takes it to another level and makes a deal with the most artist friendly streaming service (TIDAL) while giving the finger to the other services...

There is indeed a debate to be had on whether or not TIDAL is a viable streaming service given it's catalogue is dwarfed by Spotify and the like....But let's not make this out to be Prince going insane...lol....There is a lot of back and forth right now about whether streaming services fairly compensate music artists of all stripes....

It doesn't affect me, as I don't stream. But Prince should definitely be getting more than a ha'penny per stream.

The difference being Taylor Swift has a full functioning, well developed internet and social media presence that affords her fans uninhibited opportunities to still engage, indulge and flatout enjoy her music as they wish to. Prince cuts off his fans nose, to spite.

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I have it all on a personal cloud too (more or less) AND two backup local hard drives. Nobody and nothing is gonna fuck with my Carmen Electra outtakes, Malcolm Jamal Warner raps, and 315 live versions of 20-seconds' worth of Take Me With U.

I recently read someone describe Prince as "the world's most popular underground artist" or something like that. Seems like an apt description.

Now, things are getting interesting.

The Verge is one of the biggest tech sites out there, and they just wrote this article.

http://www.theverge.com/2...playlists

I cannot make playlists without Prince songs, and I'm seriously considering switching to Tidal just so I can keep my queues together.

For the record, this is NOT Prince endorsing Tidal.

His catalogue is still on Google Play Music at time of speaking as well.

Can't confirm that yet... Remember TIDAL was the ONLY streaming company he allowed to stream his concert fo far...
