does prince have the biggest ego in music? Does Prince have the biggest ego in music?
I throw this question out for all of his fans due to a book i'm almost finished reading. its a book by r&b horn legend,Fred WESLey who played and arranged for JAMES BROWN in the late 60's and 70's. reading this book reminds me of a lot of the stories said about P over the years. how p treated some of his band mates and his being a control freak. i know P's talented. and from what i've read he knows he's pretty GOOD. do you guys think he's got the biggest HAT size in the business? one thing i will say is JAMES makes prince seem like a choir boy! he's a trip and a half. but some people might say prince is the WORST... what do you guys say?

If anyone truly believes that Prince has the biggest ego in the music industry then they are sheltered. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

I call it perfectionism.
If you know what you want, you do whatever you can to make it the way you want it, even if it means being crazy strict. But he does have a huge ego, yes.

Does Prince have the biggest ego in music...LET GO OF AN EGGO? He does not do eggs.
However the following he does: HE HAS PRODUCED HIS TALENT TO SHARE WITH EVERYONE HE HAS OVERCOME THE OBSTACLES OF A "MONSTER LABEL" INDUSTRY HE HAS OFFERED YOU SPECIAL SAVINGS THRU TIME, WHILE MAINTAINNING HIS COMPANY TO BE ABLE TO GIVE MORE INSTEAD OF GO UNDER. HE HAS GIVEN HIS ENTIRE LIFE, ENERGY AND I MIGHT ADD A FEW MOMENTS IN YOUR MIND FOR YOU TO REMEMBER HAVING A DANG GOOD TIME. HE HAS OFFERED YOU THE ABILITY TO MAKE A CHOICE TO JOIN OR NOT JOIN A MUSICAL CLUB THAT BROUGHT PEOPLE FROM AROUND THE WORLD TOGETHER (YEAR AFTER YEAR) (FOR THOSE CORRUPT>>>note this>>>HE DID NOT MAKE YOU JOIN). HE HAS GONE FAR BEYOND WHAT OTHER MUSICIANS HAVE DONE IN HELPING OTHER MUSICIANS. Oh and HE ALLWAYS SAYS "THANK U". NOW WHAT HAVE YOU DONE? SIT THERE TYPE AND COMPLAIN...AND NOBODY IS GONNA BUY THAT BAG OF CRAP...GET OVER YOUR NEGATIVITY BE THANK FUL HE DID SOMETHING ...AT LEAST HE HAS. SO don't confuse EGO(EGGS) to FRUIT OF A TREE OF LIFE. YOUR LIFE IS YOUR CHOICE OF WHAT YOU DO...COMPLAINING IS AN AWEFUL WAY TO LIVE...WHY NOT STOP. Thank U. Respectfully, SingMia

His fans are the wrong people to ask. It would be better to ask those who know him personally, those who work with him personally, and those who work for him personally.
Having said that... ego- is from Latin egg- is from Scandanavian/Old Icelandic These words have nothing to do with each other etymologically.

interesting responses so far.
again..i didn't say HE does. i do know a fair amount of the music critics seem to state he does. MJ is a good example of a star who has a strong ego. it comes off different to people i guess. jagger has one. ARetha, BRUCE..ray charles...diana ross.. (just to name a few) a follow-up question is" To survive and succeed in music does a musician/singer NEED a BIG ego? if prince does have one...should it matter to us fans? props to your reply tipn4u.

You Do Need a Edge because that Business can break you down&Make you Fragile in a Hurry if you aren't Mentally Prepared.A Healthy Ego is a Must but as long as you aren't overblown about it.again..i didn't say HE does. i do know a fair amount of the music critics seem to state he does. props to your reply tipn4u. Prince's ego doesn't affect my life, so it matters not to me. There is a long history of bigger egos than even Prince's in the music industry. You mentioned one with the James Brown example. Had he (James AND Prince) not had the ego he wouldn't have achieved the greatness he did. He (Prince) was the musician dealing with stiff suits who knew more about how to get the bottom line than what syncopated 16th notes are. It takes ego, HUGE BALLS for an unproven teenager to negotiate for complete artistic control of his career, and not to give in until he got it. More power to him. I also have to add that sometimes that ego can be a double-edged sword. [This message was edited Mon Mar 24 18:50:28 PST 2003 by Supernova] This post not for the wimp contingent. One interesting motif in the Fred WESley book regarding
james that is the opposite of prince is that most of the sidemen who backed JB did not think much of him as a musician. Maceo, fred,& company were the real STars in JB's world. They took jb's limited musical skills and turned his tunes into funk classics. basically, his main talent was (and still is) his performance skills. In prince's case most of the backing musicians who played with him over the years (even ones who despise him as a person) all admired his musicial skills. what separated him from JB is he had (still has) the respect of his backing musicians. even if they don't like some of his methods they know he is TOp-notch at what he does. JB ego was and is one of the worst ones i've ever heard and what's funny is without the help of maceo & company over the years he might not have lasted 2 years! those who say you need the edge to make it are dead on. Prince knows he's multi-talented and guys like stevie, bruce, mccartney, miles, jimi know this too. yes ego is in the eye of the beholder.

I know a lady who was going to be the opening act on a JB bill, JB was so threatened by the fact that she had the reputation of overshadowing the established artists she opened for...I won't say what he said to her, but it was darn triflin. It was his right to have whoever he wanted as an opening act, but there's a way to go about doing things, and his way ... left a whole lot to be desired. There are tons of examples with JB and many others who up the ante of even the biggest egos going. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.
