No such thing as the "last best", but Thieves In the Temple, The Future, Space Universal Remix are pretty much it, though I like some of the remixes of Come and TMBGITW.

The US pressing and it was very sweet and which felt like total rich analog sound of 1991... Great Maxi Single

I have both on CD and I am thinking of shredding them because they are worthless to me

i still have this 12" recording in my vinyl collection. my system is a 'sony'. it's still good . i've got to get a needle for it.

The main problem I'd say was that after 1987 Prince fancied remixes instead of xtended versions. What was the last proper, non remixed extended version released on a single? Gett Off I think, the Damn Near 10 mn version. Come On (Remix) was pretty close to an ol' fashion extended as well but not quite exactly. IDK why in the middle of all those remixes Prince couldn't have continued inserting a good ol' regular extended mix and a b-side, it's obvious that his fanbase was totally nuts about the 80's maxis and started to lose interest in them when remixes replaced extended and b sides. Of course P followed a trend, everyone else stopped releasing b sides and extended, but still

I´m surprised that nobody besides you mentioned this last gem of a maxi single. It´s his last great maxi single, although the Come On maxi wasn´t bad either but it was nowhere near as great as I Hate U.

I Hate U is a great song, the remix with the extra deep bass and those ad-libbed lines was briliant (" U gave a dog a place to bone, and now your ass is all alone....I Hate U!" ).

A very passionate rendition, an instrumental remix with Eric Leeds on the saxophone, great lyricics.

And as far as I recall it almost made it to the top ten on the Billboard charts. Didn´t it go all the way up to 12 or 11 with almost no promotion?

I liked this song much better than his last hit The Most Beautiful Girl In The World.

The only thing that´s not so great about it are those ad-libs where he mentions Forrest Gump because it makes the lyrics seem a bit dated, but since Gump is kind of a classic movie I´m ok with it.

Great song, great remixes, great last maxi single. Should have and could have been his last great hit in the US if WB and Prince had promoted it properly. Best song on TGE and he barely played it during the tour (only a snippet during the medley).
