This September, The Grateful Dead will be releasing a Box set with 80 CDs full of never before released live material:

Simple question: If a band like The Dead, that never had a hit in their career, can pull of something like that, why can't Prince? It's such a shame...

Because Dead Heads are part of a Cult. Anything Jerry and the gang puts out they will buy no matter if it is good or not. Wait, what?

Also because Prince cannot plan stuff and show dedication, attention, concentration for a little while that is enough for even doing a 4CD.

How long ago was Emancipation?

Prince does not care 1% to give his fans his remasters, boxsets, dvd-sets etc.

He only cares about releasing his NEW music -- unfortunately most of his NEW music is in a much lower quality than his OLD...

The Isley Brothers also have a massive box set being released soon...containing 23(!) CDs including a never-before-released live album from 1980.The entire set is newly remastered with a ton of bonus tracks.

I can see no reason to re-purchase stuff I already own on CD. I might be in the minority, but probably I'm in the majority with that thinking. At least, I'd bet that's how Prince sees it.

Prince would announce it, hype it and then move on without releasing it. We'll end up just adding it to the stack of unreleased projects.

The good and bad about being a fan of Prince is that the guy has a lot of unreleased and unrealized projects. I would love to see him hire an archivist and come out with an album of unreleased music once or twice a year. He could have fans submit the proper artwork and not print any up until he has 200,000 pre orders. Sell a limited number of copies and then make no more and pay the archivist from the profits.

He could use live stuff, rehearsals, soundchecks, unreleased songs or even come out with the music that would complete a collection (a 3rd disc of Dream Factory/Crystal Ball that would compliment the SOTT album, etc.).

He'd have to do very little work, and just reap the rewards for his back catalog.

Now that would be amazing. (while I'm making wishes, I'd also like a pony)

We dont need 80 CDs...we just need everything from 1978 - 1995 REMASTERED (I'll be fine with 1980-1988, but that's just me). I'm starting to think it'll never happen, simply because Prince doesnt want to remind folks of how awesome he USED to be...

I,too,would be satisfied with every album from 1978-1988,remastered with bonus tracks.That's only 10 albums...it would be really easy to put together a 10-CD remastered package.

My first thought: Good lord, they're just FLEECING their fans with that! My second thought: Prince should do that. I would buy it regardless of cost.

Tiotally agree with your second thought. Bring on the CD set of every remix of every track.

Not only does he not care, an 80+ CD BOX SET sounds, to me, pretty fucking expensive (not to mention time consuming) to mass produce. That is, assuming it was nicely done. Also, consider how many people would shell out the money for it. Would it really be worth his (Warner's?) time and money? But, that's just me take on it.
