Has Prince ever done a concert in Africa? Just curious.

I'm curious about this one, too. Mr. black consciousness seems to have a gap here. "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

Next to what country is Africa? Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

i bet at some point he will...most all black men have an innate desire to go back and visit the place of our ancestral origins...and usually, those who have the means to do so, do so...i wouldnt be surprised at all if he makes a trip in the not so distant future...

You don't really believe Africans can afford the ticket prices he's asking, do you? Especially since he is not popular at all over there. I've only been to East Africa and I only heared P once in the touristy Carnivore disco in Nairobi. They like r&b, reggae and, of course, African music. [Edited 6/27/15 0:43am]

France 6. Switzerland 7. Netherlands 8. Belgium 9. Spain 10. Portugal? 11. Ireland 12. Denmark 13. Sweden 14. Finland? 15. Italy 16. Greece? 17. Dubai 18. Australia 19. Japan 20. Argentina (Rock in Rio era) 21. Brazil (Rock in Rio) 22. Mexico? 23. Norway 24. Austria . Please let me know if there are other places as well. If Princevault.com is to be believed, he has yet to perform in Africa. A robin sings a masterpiece that lives and dies unheard...

[Edited 6/27/15 0:43am] Way to generalize 1 Billion people (Africa is the 2nd most populous continent on Earth). I'm sure in a pool that size there are a few thousand that can afford his tickets and like his music. I lived in Tunisia for a few months and heard Prince regularly on the radio. A few thousand on an entire continent is still not much. Tunisia was one of the most modern, liberal countries in North Africa. I say "was" because of the tragic things that are happening there now.
I was speaking about East Africa, but I can't imagine the French speaking West Africans being very interested. Same goes for Latin America. To answer Adorecreams question: no, he has never performed in Mexico, Greece or Finland either. There were rumours about a concert in Helsinki before the Diamonds and Pearls tour, but it never happened. He did play in Portugal ithe next year. Those were the days I was still collecting live recordings, so I kept track of those things. [Edited 6/27/15 4:43am] [b][Edited 6/27/15 4:46am]

I think I read somewhere that he had visited Egypt at some point in the early 90s. He's long had something of an interest in ancient Egypt, witness the back cover of the Love Symbol album, Muse 2 the Pharoah to name but two examples.
I'd be surprised if he hadn't popped over for an incognito look at the pyramids when he owned that villa in Spain in the 90s.
Being a rich American Earth Wind and Fire fan, I'd say it was almost inevitable .
I wonder if he's ever visited or played in Israel though?

What are you talking about? Innate desire? Exactly. I new this thread would draw ignorant and racist comments. How many of you have been to Africa?

There are many well off people on that continent. Not everyone is dying of starvation. There are extremely poor and rich people on every continent including Europe and The Americas. There are many countries there that have been colonized by European nations that have Western tastes in North, South, East and Western Africa, get a history book...

Adding Hong Kong and Poland to the list makes 26 countries (Really 25 as Hong Kong is part of China, but he has never played China either as far as I know). He nearly made my country New Zealand in 2012, but there was some tale about the Vector arena being too small for the symbol stage and of course no outdoor venues were available as Aucklands climate can not be relied on to stay dry in winter. . I think he would never do Africa, as like most a list musicians he requires upfront cash and the corrupt and poorly managed regimes of Africa could not guarantee this. Maybe afew years ago in South Africa, but lets face it, since the demise of Madiba, its become another poorly run banana republic. Most white South Africans now live in a suburb of my city called Browns Bay (Little Bloemfontein). . Plus I doubt Prince would sell out in Africa as the hyper masculine culture of Black Africans would not allow for the effeminate acting Prince (Same reason why he has not played in Jamaica). Unless you are a rapper or look and sound like Teddy Pendergrass, they won't take you serious. I can Prince being hauled off the stage in Nigeria and shot up by area boys calling him a Chichi man. Not racist, but true, Black Africans are extremely homophobic. Prince is not gay, but to their limited understanding of tolerance for humanity, he looks gay to them. Same in Muslim Africa, scantily clad females whirling around on stage would upset them. . Before you all scream racist, racist, all of Africa except South Africa and one or two places bans homosexuality and all have traditional Islam or Christianity. Their attitudes towards male sexuality are in the Stone Age. I would not feel personally safe in Sub Sharan Africa and I doubt neither would Prince. He would arrive on stage and then find that he has not been paid or some rebels had taken over in the show (Bob Marley was scared in the Zimbabwe concert, because of violence committed by thugs in the show). And then we don't need to dsicuss the rumble in the jungle fiasco, and things were better back then. Maybe Prince would fare better in a country under a Mobutu like dictator where he would have a bodyguard with him. . If he played a Black African show, my guess would be Nigeria, Kenya or Ghana as all 3 are English speaking and have large populations. In Nigeria he would probablyu be scammed, Kenya is too far away, but he may be safe, Ghana is the best choice as it is stable and wealthy by African standards, but who would go to the show. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I guess any African tour would go like this . Prince, back 2 the Motherland Tour 2016 . 1. Capetown South Africa - Newlands stadium 3 nights 1a - Durban - 1 night 2. Johannesburg - 4 nights 3. Nairobi - Kenyatta Park 1 night 3a. Libreville (Gabon) 1 night? 4. Lagos (Nigeria) - 2 nights - Nigeria has 130 million people, surely at least 50k would see Prince, and the south is more stable than the Boko Haram north 4a - Maybe a night in Yaounde or Douala in Cameroon. 5. Abuja (Nigeria) - 1 night 6. Accra (Ghana) - 2 nights 7. Abidjan (Cote d'Ivoire) 3 nights 8. (If lucky) Bamako, Mali - 2 nights 9. Casablanca orRabat in Morocco - 2 nights 10. Tunis, Tunisia - 2 nights 11. Cairo or Alexandria - 1 night (If the fundamentalist Islamic rulers would allow it) . Finish off with 3 nights in Jerusalem or Tel Aviv Israel and even a night in Amman Jordan.

Can you read? As or accent marks, my computer does not have them as I live in an English speaking country. A's are meant in the case of the other country not being available. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Not all. Prince doesn't look very African to me . British Nigerian Comedienne, Gina Yashere spoke about this yearning, saying she wanted to get back to her ROOTS, after going to Nigeria, she realised her ROOTS were in Clapham! It's on Youtube and quite funny.

I've wondered about this as well. He misses quite some countries in his world map. Why not include eastern Europe, Russia, Korea, Thailand, India, China, NZ, the whole of Africa? I don't believe he has an obligation to play those countries, but just for sheer grandness I guessed he would like to play the world. By playing only 'first world' countries it appears to be a money thing.
Oh, he has also played Hungary and Curacao. And I believe he visited Egypt in the 90s. Weird, since I never heard of Prince going on holidays before, ever. I can't imagine him at the beach or visiting a cathedral or the pyramids.
