Does the song "Cream" sound 80s or 90s to you?

When I heard this song, I thought it was made in the 1980s. It just had a nostalgic sound (especially Michael B's drum beats).

The guitar effects sound 90's, I think.

Adorecream

Early 1990s, jangly and poppy, less keyboards and synths than you would expect on 80s pop and more of dancing and funky beats you get with 90s music.

.

It's just a perfect early 90s Prince pop gem. Apparently he wrote it in late 1990.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

The real muscular drums have kept the track sounding alot fresher then other pop songs from around that period. Just praise the lord no Tony M on this one.

It borrows heavily from that Marc Bolan song, so I´d say 70s, updated for the 90s.

Not one of my favorite songs, never understood why it charted so high.

Well, it sounds exactly like "Bang a Gong (Get it On)" by T-Rex (as well as alot of other T-Rex jams) so I'd say it sounds like a 70's song with 90's production.

Get it On is itself a knowing lift of Little Queenie by Chuck Berry so.... I guess it sounds like a 50's song.

lol

It sounds like "Prince" to me, aside from his very early stuff, most of his music transcends time, you really cant place it in a decade.

Your post reads like an edited, rewritten, better and more accurate version of my post above. lol

Early 90's music still had an 80's feel to it

Early 90's recreation of a cool 70's vibe. I love it.

eek

Seriously?

I´m surprised.

Are there any Prince songs at all that remind you of other songs?

For instance, when I hear Laid Back´s White Horse, I can´t help but think that it inspired Erotic City, which came out a bit later than White Horse. Then again, I´m not sure whether Laid Back might have been inspired by Prince by hearing Erotic City before it was released, because from what I know they met at some point and I´ve also read about a When Doves Cry single with a Laid Back song as the b-side. Maybe I should start a thread and ask the org.

I completely agree with the assessment...I just never did it.

Side note...on Rock and Roll Love Affair...there's a 'do you know what I mean' line. I'm under the distinct impression that it's an allusion to Lee Michaels Song by that name. I get a 70's am radio vibe from both songs...not that they sound the same in general...but that line has the same exact cadence and delivery in both songs....its all I ever think of when I hear it.

I mentioned this before....but many thought I was talking out my ass...not that they phrased it as such.
