I can't decide on just one. As much as I love Prince there are some songs I just despise. In no particular order:

I quite like most of these (apart from Purple and Gold)...

The first two songs on MPLSound are contenders too: "(there'll never b) another like me" and "chocolate box" are totally empty and embarrasing and have nothing to do with the original Minneapolis Sound of the eighties.

I was psyched beforehand that an album called MPLSound was coming out, but my enthousiasm was quickly killed off after hearing these first two tracks for the first time. I thought 20Ten was a much better executed 80's throwback than MPLSound.

agreed! this song totally moves me, despite the "take all the guns away" line. it's restrained in it's pleading tone but the undercurrent is totally there!! I think it's very successful.

they are terrible. on the other hand Lotusflow3r is one of my favorite Prince albums.

My problem with Lotusflow3r is that it sounds good, but the songs aren't there for me. They are either too boring or derivative of other songs. IMHO of course!

I get people not liking Family Name or Avalanche over the lyrics, not musicaly.

I guess in my book a song like Everybody Loves Me qualifies as terrible because it's arrogant even when delivered tongue in cheek. But it can't be his worst song -- not with tracks like Work The P. or Jughead out there, not to mention practically 2/3 of New Power Soul.

Songs that annoy me terribly: Rave On 2 the Joy Fantastic (1999), Arms of Orion, Graffiti Bridge, Tic tic Bang (from GB).

And Baltimore? The song sounds so relevant after Charleston, I don't even want to talk about it.

It's Prince using some tried and true effects, yes -- plus the "napkin" lyrics, but I think he chose to act right away and wanted the song to be his spontaneous reaction, live to tape. Then he re-recorded it but that's the origin of the song : Prince choosing to express himself right away, to do something now in his own way -- the result is a great little song, lots of press and absolute relevance with the concert and then, to our collective horror, Charleston.

Sex Shooter is not his worst song, but it is one of the laziest.

All it has is a fairly decent synth line and drum machine track, and even that has a sameness about it.

The lyrics are silly and basic - "Sex shooter, shooting love in your direction, sex shooter come and play with my affection - Come on kiss the gun, guaranteed good fun" it ain't rocket science is it? We get the joke, 6 shooter gun = colt pistol, sex shooter = a penis, likely Prince's.

Plus the singing is pretty terrible, apples vocals and lyrics that prove they are nothing more than sex obsessed, brainless bimbos. It should be recruiting music for Hugh Hefners latest teenage bimbos. At least Vanity had presence and Charisma, Apollonia brings nothing but squeaky bimbo vocals.

This to me is a really 4/10 song rather than anything good.

I agree about apples voice. She cant sing. She is even worse than vanity. but with a dope beat and a catchy hook a horrendous singer can pull it off. she played her part and that was to sing the dam song and be sexxy. and that was what she was. Man she was sexy. On another note. GLASS CUTTER was really bad

the beat is cool...P probably should have changed the lyrics and gave the beat to The Time...but her voice is so damn awful that it makes a joke of the whole track...she sonds like somebody's drunk Mexican auntie stumbled into a recording booth....and IMO she aint sexy at all... when her and Jill Jones were in those Purple Rain scenes together, the glow from Jill Jones essence totally destroyed whatever little appeal Appollonia was trying to have...

I'm absolutely serious about Sex Shooter being one of Prince's immortal songs, along with Sugar Walls, Nasty Girl, Vibrator and other eternally excellent songs of his.

I think he succeeded handsomely in exploiting his libido as a source of musical inspiration and puts much of the rap world to shame for lack of creativity and finesse.
