2 questions about Hot Thing 1. How do you feel it holds up after 25 + years?
2. Which version should I get? And do NOT give me that video version nonsense. The studio version is the one I wan't in some way or another and the one I personally think is superior. I like to dance, and this is my shit, for real! [Edited 6/21/15 14:33pm]

1. It holds up fantastically IMO, great electrofunk tune with a massive beat and a fantastic sax solo by Eric Leeds. What's not to love?
2. I think the album version is the best mix personally. RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

The regular studio version is ace! 2nd or 3rd fave of mine . Ironically not crazy about the remix. For all time I am with you, you are with me.

I read this in another, older thread. Should I get the extended version? Is it killer. Haven't heard it.

How does it hold up? Put it this way - it's in my top 10 most played Prince songs, and pretty fucking high up. It's killer, it always has been and it always will be. Absolutely genius. |

I expressed myself a bit wrong. What I meant was, is it really an essential experience compared to the album version? Is it a must have or am I doing alright with the one I've got? [Edited 6/21/15 16:46pm]

I like this song, but to be honest,I don't think that the lyrics are that great
the lyrics seem too simple for a Prince song...
hot thing....baby U dance so good hot thing....baby I knew U would hot thing...barely 21 hot thing...looking for big fun

Well...'hot' really is just that simple. One can muck it up by adding a bunch of other stuff but it starts morphing into other things like love or obsession. The lyrics sum up a notion of a kind of hot very well. Attractive, adventurous, young, and willing to put out...a notion of hot many men(and many women) enjoy.

I think some people would not like it now as they'd prefer their precision-designed electro-funk, nine inch nails kind of thing. I think it holds up really well because the ever so slightly low-tech-ness of it is what makes it great. Album version for me. [Edited 6/22/15 4:46am]

Great song. So ahead of its time. Still sounds contemporary almost 30 years after it was released. The wooh is on the one!

I remember when he released the video of the sampler version from the show in Sweden. As soon as that beat came in, I remember thinking how the song still kicks ass after 25 years. Perhaps it's the simplicity of the song but it sounds just as good today.

Sounds better to me now than it did back then. It sounded stiff and mechanical to me back in the day. Now I can appreciate the nuances more. The whole second half of the song is tight -- great song solo, nice little musical additions by Prince to the basic beat. Album version sounds best to me. "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"
