to be exact, the colours changed while the guitars did not, so there are more shades than the guitars... but let me try to put the colours together: white peach light blue black red yellow dark blue purple (or am I mixing it with dark blue)? they are more or less in a chronological order, too [This message was edited Mon Mar 24 7:42:29 PST 2003 by agarze] ______________

What era was this taken from? I also thought he had a light green one...maybe not, though?

I've never seen him playing the red one, either. But there are pictures of Prince with the guitar, accompanied by Diamond & Pearl (which should answer your question regarding the era) ______________

I have always loved the design for that guitar, simply dope. I wish I could afford the price in the NPGMC retail section though...would be great for my collection...at that cost I wonder if I would wanna play it or just display it?? oh well it's always fun to dream about things I can't get...yet -------------------------------------------------

I think:
White (Purple Rain era) Black (Parade tour) Peach (Sign O' The Times tour) Blue (a.aka. The Blue Angel, Lovesexy & Nude tours) Yellow (Diamonds & Pearls tour) Dark blue/Purple (Act I & Act II tours) I think that's all he used. I never saw any picture of a red one. If it exists (with or without Diamond & Pearl) I'd like to see a scan. Cheers & Regards jooZt

Also, I thought Prince didn't play guitar during the Parade Tour, but left that up to Wendy and Miko.

is the version you can buy off his site actually any good? It says 'suitable for playing'. why say that unless there's something not right about it.
either way it'd deffinately not the guitar Prince would use. This, i imagine, is a cheap copy of what he uses. I'd like to see a review of it, or if someone has one. _________________________________________

White-Purple Rain
Black with natural maple neck-Parade Peach-SOTT Blue-Lovesexy All Black-Batman Yellow-D&P DarkBlue/Purple-ACT1/2 Also if you look at the "My Name Is Prince" video, Levi or Sonny has a one that fades colors from black to red and yellow. There is also a bass that is on display at the Smithsonian museum thats never been played. __________________________________________________

I have this picture of him with the black cloud where his suit (yellow) and hairstyle definily indicate 1986. Also i have it in a magazine published around that time. I never seen him use it myself in 1986 though. He did (often) use his white one for the encore (Purple Rain) at least on the European leg of that tour. I've seen that in person.

If you check out his first filmclip, the cloud is a bass being played by Andre, I think. I get hard if the wind blows your cologne near me

He also used the solid black one on the cover of the Act 1 tourbook.

I've never seen him playing the red one, either. But there are pictures of Prince with the guitar, accompanied by Diamond & Pearl (which should answer your question regarding the era) A Candy Brandywine/Red prototype was recently sold on E-Bay. It had gold symbols on the fret edge and not on the fretboard itself. Really a cool color. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

yeah i touched a blue cloud guitar in a hard rock somewhere. i think it was london. But yeah i touched because i was hoping i'd get some of Prince's dried sweat into my system and thus making me more funky. _________________________________________

estidog - you raised a point about the quality of the cloud guitars available to buy.
They are certainly not "cheap" copies - they are copies, but made by Schecter, a fairly well-respected luthier. No, they are not exactly the same as the guitar Prince plays, but this is only down to the hardware featured on the guitar (eg - the pick-ups are not EMG actives like on Prince's, so the raw sound of the guitar will be different). But, the dimensions and look of the guitar are exactly the same. I don't own one, but have had a go and it was good enough - not the best guitar I've played and certainly not worth the money if you are after a good guitar (the same amount of money would buy you a fantastic "standard" guitar), but for a collector's item, its great! I think they only mention that it is suitable for playing in case people think it is only ornamental - not because there is anything wrong with it per se. ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

I saw a rather handsome Yellow Cloud at the Hard Rock Hollywood, the one outside Universal Studios. There was also the peach outfit he wore for Housequake on the SOTT tour, an earing from Lovesexy and the blindfold he wears in the & video. I fear you have all destroyed my illusions by suggesting the Cloud was a replica! Am so upset,
Someone said something about a Cloud being on show in the UK somewhere, where exactly is that?? Also, I believe, if you watch the Video of TMBGITW, around the middle of the song the camera has a quick shot of Sonny T stroking what seems to be a yellow-gold cloud bass. He's playing it upside down as he does. Someone check it out and confirm if i'm right.
