Prince's war/government lying protest song closing 'Dirty Mind' is one the funkiest tunes he has ever written!!! I requested a Prince song at 'Good Times' in Hollywood and the deejay spinned 'Partyup!'. And I was embarassed at how long it's been since I listened to it that I forgot the lyrics. So I gave it a listen when I got back home and am mesmerized by the deep bass/rhythm disco guitar in trademark Prince fashion. I love how he refers to going 'Uptown', not being a victim of society in this track! Do u dig it as much as me?

Tight jam and a groovy bass line. This 1980s classic was, I believe, his first anti-war song ("you're gonna have to fight your own damn war...") and artistically speaking, the progenitor to the social activism of 2015's "Baltimore" ("if there ain't no justice then there ain't no peace"). 35 years after the release of Dirty Mind, he remains faithful and true to his peacenik hippie roots.

Just to clarify, the line you referred to about the girl being a 'victim of society' is from "Uptown" and not "Partyup" (I had to check the lyrics to be sure. It's an easy and commonly made mistake as both songs have 'up' in their titles, are found on the same album, and both contain the word 'uptown' in their lyrics!). "Uptown" is a non-comformist's party anthem, emblematic of Prince's personal ideology of independent thinking and freedom of expression. Solid dance beat, and a nice bit of funk on this number!

yeah I know the 'victim of society' is from Uptown, but he refers to 'going Uptown baby, I don't wanna die' in Partyup and I think he means he's doesn't want to die a victim of society's issues (war in this case)

Got it. I didn't understand you were referring to the statement he was making by that line, and not the actual lyrics. Makes sense the way you describe it.

The song is catchy as all get out. (But then, I find nearly all of his songs are super catchy )
