Not Great Songs Sounding Great Live

So I was at the two D.C. shows last weekend and I was very surprised to hear some songs that personally I was never a fan of but sound great in concert...

For example I never was a fan of SHAKE but when he performed it in concert it sounded great live...

Which songs do you think were not that great on record but sound great when performed live?

I didn't clock that he'd put "Shake!" in the set - awesome! Looking forward to hearing that.

Yea I was really surprised too... Out of all my fav songs I heard at that concert like Dance Electric and 777 93 11... Shake really took me by surprise, it sounded great.

^Yep!

I love almost any song played live. Especially up-tempo stuff.

"Play in the Sunshine", for sure. cool

On the other hand, I've never cared for the live versions of "1999". Give me the album version any day of the week (one of my top 10 of all time)

Maybe eye do, just not like eye did before pimp2

I love When Doves Cry live, especially the keyboard riff after Wendy's solo, I've only heard it played like that on the Purple Rain Syracuse show and a soundboard of the last Purple Rain show in Florida.

.

Also the Tokyo Dome Nude Tour version is pretty great too. However not a fan of the Musicology tour version at all.

.

IMHO it's a pretty hard song to execute live but he has done a pretty good job with it.

I think Cause & Effect and Pretzlbodylogic both sound stiff in the studio, but they SMOKE live.

This. Especially Cause & Effect.

Also - All This Love. When I first saw the Montreux gig, I thought he was playing a classic by some other artist.

I really need to plan my next P concert around going with more orgers who appreciate this stuff. Willing to travel more for a better time.

I cant imagine an org filled front row just raging it out!!! lol

I skip WDC whenever it comes up on my iPod but live, I love dat shit! I agree Kiss is not good live. I'm slowly not hating Pretzelbodylogic, just have to find a way to zone out those awful lyrics.

eventhough i think it was just a one off, one of those moments where

everything just goes extremely right and then some, but "Fury" on SNL

blew the album version (nice but a bit tame) out of the water.

i don't really know if he performed it often after that and if it was just

as good. i should look into that.

Shake! is a great choice. Any bootleg of that song that I've heard smokes. The London Marquee club 2002 show is a good one.

The Diamonds & Pearls Tour was full of 'em. Cream, Gett Off, oh what the hell, the whole album was better live, even Tony M did a good job.
