... every week you search the movie titles in the directv menu, to see if Purple Rain, Grafitti Bridge or Under The Cherry Moon is coming on that week, even though you already have them on DVD

You have the 1999 cd with and without DMSR.

What? Is this is a real thing that happened? Sounds like a collector's item. Why would they do that? Space? And why pick one of the best songs on the record?

The original CD release of 1999 doesn't include DMSR (not enough room to fit on one disc). Later, as CD technology was able to have longer runtimes, pressings of 1999 include DMSR.

It was a space issue at first, when CDs were limited to 74 minutes. Technology improved for later pressings and enabled enough space to include DMSR.
.
DMSR was on the Risky Business soundtrack, which I believe is why it was omitted from the first cd release.

Why didn't they just release as 2 discs like the original lp?

I'm sure it was decided that since all but one song fit on a single disc at the time, keeping it to one cd made financial sense at the time.

Tfw u and your boyfriend legit planned out making a shitty sock puppet remake of Graffiti Bridge as a piss take and planned out the voices and everything.

We wanted to make it as funny as possible and give Aura a deep cockney mans accent and make Morris Day sound like A Pimp Named Slickback from The Boondocks lol

We will probably make it one day but just for us to laugh at. It'd be cringey as hell.

The 80s are Prince years. I turned 9 in Purple Rain and started my new school in SOTT. 1983 does not exist for me.

Going into a bookstore yesterday (A big local chain) and they are playing Somebody's Somebody on the intercom and the song finishes, and some Moby song comes on. I go up to an attendant and say, do you guys have Emancipation in the CD player and they are "What is Emancipation". I say it is the album that last song came off. She says oh that Justin Timberlake song, I say no its Prince and its off his 1996 album Emancipation.

.

She a young Polynesian girl about 20 says "Oh that Purple Rain guy, my dad has that record, you're joking that can't be him, I thought he died in 1985" I laughed and said no, he is still making music, she just shook her head and laughed. I gave up, ah the young and ignorant.

.

Decided she was too clueless, that he was known as the Symbol at the time, why confuse things? lol

.

Black Bob agree about the gay bit, being gay myself, I kind of know he ain't one of mine and never will be. Ignorant non fans always pick on him for that shit. In fact that is the second qualification of fanhood, knowing Prince ain't gay (The first is, that he has made albums and songs other than Purple Rain).

You immediately look for Prince CDs in record stores even though you've already heard/owned them all.

Or you actually know which ones you are missing on CD

omg omg

But the only one I am missing is "Prince".

shocked omfg

But I do have the album on Vinyl, cassette, itunes, digital (Computer and tetradrive), Flashdrive.

.

Which is the next point - Not only do you have the albums, but you need them on as many formats as possible

1. Vinyl (Especially for Pre 1995 material) fro

2. Cassette Tape (Less vital, but again up to 2000 or so), many of us started collections with cassette tape copies headbang

3. CD (Most widely collected format for all Prince albums) thumbs up!

4. Itunes copies excited

5. Digital copies saved to computers and hardrives cop

6. Sheet music books wacky

and the most extreme

7. Piano rolls for player pianos, these exist for most major albums and singles up to the mid 1980s. death

.

Same for all the singles, vinyl, CD and tape cassingles. shocked

Then we move to international copies, like the stuff on sleevographia including Russian knock offs on 6 inch square vinyl platters. drool3

.

And that is before bootlegs and unreleased tracks. Get them all and you have a vault bigger than Prince's music

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name
