Just some questions about Make It Through the Storm.

Princevault lists a total of four versions of this song: an initial recording from 1976, a re-recording from 1977, and a third re-recording from 1978 with Sue Ann Carwell on vocals. Those are the three Prince produced versions, all unreleased. Then there was a fourth version, produced without Prince's involvement, that was released as a Sue Ann Carwell b-side.

Now here's the questions: several boots include a Prince vocal version, but they all seem to be the same recording--but which of the recordings is it? The Vault book says its from 1977 at Moonsound, and that seems right--does anyone know any different? And is this the only Prince vocal version that's circulating, or has one of the others also surfaced in the larger community?

And then, I'm unsure about the Sue Ann recordings. One was included on Eye's Wow collection--was that the unreleased version she recorded, or was it the released version?

In other words, what is reasonably attainable, and what do I still need to track down?

I'm afraid I'm unable to answer your initial question as to the recording date of the Prince vocal version that is circulating, but I would just like to add that there appears to be two different versions of that one vocal take circulating, one which can be found on Work It 2.0 and probably a few other bootlegs before that (I haven't checked) and another which appears on a more recent bootleg called For You Demos and Outtakes. The latter is in much better sound quality, although I've heard people say that this is the result of it being a fan remaster of the former version rather than being a better earlier source, but I can not confirm this. AFAIK none of the other versions you list are circulating (apart from the Sue Ann Carwell b-side obviously), but if you only have the Work It 2.0 version you should try and track down the For You Demos one as it sounds a lot better, regardless of its origin.

The version on the most recent Blast from the Past sounds better than it does on other sets I have--I'll check out the For You Demos if I can find it (though I suspect BFTP may just have taken that version and re-released it, as on so many other recently circulating tracks). Thanks for pointing it out.

The circulating version is all the same sources as I have heard about 3 of them and they all sound alike in style.

Su Anns version is the released version I also heard. So only 2 possibly circulating (in various qualities depending on download)
