Homoerotic jokes about Prince

I have noticed that "urban" (that means black - if that isnt an incendiary word yet) comedians like to include a Prince joke and it is usually something about how his sex appeal and aura makes them uncomfortable once they realize they are attracted to it "momentarily"... eek

Finesse Mitchell, Red Grant, and Jamie Foxx have done extensive stories about being excited by Prince despite resisting it with their masculinity. I have always found the topic to be hilarious on its face. I can remember being questioned for being a hardcore Prince fan (back before most of the people on this site were even born or had any idea who he was). Prince was hardly the mainstream legend that he is today. You had to be brave to be out as a Prince fan if you were a straight man. I didnt give a damn - even had the Controversy shower poster on my bedroom wall to the chagrin of my family. All my buddies were interested in the music and the look but could get the courage to do either - I did. I laughed at the shock on their faces with mouths agape as they stared at my hair or the heeled boots and the studded trench. I imagine they had some of these same kinds of stories that the comics tell but never ever said anything out loud.

Maybe not precisely on the topic:

Prince is good looking (well most of the time) so I understand why homos find him attractive, find Prince having sex appeal.

I am straight myself, but I find Prince "very sexy" still... Prince is a "true sexy motherfucker". cool wink

But. What may be irritating for a straight superstar like Prince, is when people actually believe he is gay, only because he is so flamboyant, dressing with style, in some outrage costumes, high heels etc..

I see nothing wrong in being gay, Elton John, George Michael, Neil Tennant, Freddie Mercury. Lots of examples of great pop stars being gay (I can't remember a female one, atm)...

But when/ if you actually is a straight guy like Prince is - with lots of erotic charisma, it must be annoying of the homo erotic "accusations" all the time.

Therefor any "Homoerotic joke" may be a little annoying for him, right?

I know I don't like jokes.. when people say "Prince isn't he gay"? And, they are not even knowing he was married twice/ to 2 women. People often get surprised when I tell about his marriges to Mayte and Manuela..

Yes they are funny, but you get tired of the idea, that all these fly black comedians think Prince is gay. He is not gay, but these guys always show him as he is gay.

Jamie Foxx is the worst offender, but probably the funniest

1. Butt Out Jeans Sept 1991 (Prince with Gett Off era Bandana and assless pants, tied up shirt - camp voice "Or was this Morris, ooohhhwweee!!!"

2. Prince of Munchkin land, Oct 1992 - "I wear Maybelline and Mary Kaye, I get confused with Tammy Faye" "I get my clothes at Girls Between"

3. Random standup some time around 2000 "He is so pretty, he looks like a fawn,, I was a fag for five minutes, don't get that shit twisted, I was on top" etc

4. With Letterman 2010 "God created the earth - Chhoowooow hand thing.

David Chapelle's Prince 2004, also shows him as a effeminate gay man on the prowl. Prince humping the ball and his ultra gay Revolution bandmates, a guy with a set of giant lips on his jersey.

Eddie Griffin does a great version of TAFKAP doing Kansas city (c.1997). All of these are on Youtube.

Okay this stuff is funny, but the gay thing is offensive, these campy screechy stereotypes are offensive to gays and Prince. Like the Peach and Black crew said "Where does this gay thing come from, especially as Prince has this super sexy reputation with the ladies - Its the makeup, well James Brown wore HEAPS of makeup, well maybe it wasn't from Maybelline". And also that it is the heels, singing in falsetto and his delicate appearance. The fact he dresses like that as he does it for a challenge and maybe it makes the ladies feel more at ease. Like they said too, other gayer stars never got the same amount of shit about being gay or acting gay, that Prince did.

The Prince is gay myth is the oldest and most persistent one here, we even have a core of orgers who have decided Prince is gay and left it at that and keeping clutching at the most fragile straws, as a gay man I can say "Honey he may be in the family, but he ain't one of us" If anything Prince actually can be very homophobic, spouting his bible crap about how unnatural being gay is.

Just because a dude wears high heels, make up and is always immaculately presented rather than wearing a hoody or a basketball top he is perceived to be gay. Oh and add to that the fact he is only 5 foot 2 and a slight delicate looking man and generally pale by African American standards. If anything Black comedians should be giving him more love, for Prince's talent and his lady killing skills.

Even now at 57, he has a group of 20 something girls playing with him and young women like Andy Allo, Delilah and Liane Lahavas all throwing themselves at him for musical and possibly sexual patronage. Maybe all this gay shit is because he is jealous.

As a gay man myself, I find all these stereotypes of gays being camp, bitchy, oversexed, zonked up on party drugs, well but tackily dressed and emotionally weak annoying enough, with out them being imposed on Prince and the stereotype I get is "Oh you like Prince, oh well thats typical for gay guys". These stereotypes are also crap, I am the most grounded, slackly dressed, messy eccentric, undersexed, totally abstinent from any drug or noxious substance person around.

I enjoy some Jamie Foxx send ups occasionally, but this shit is getting old. Its 2015 now and black comedians need to realise making fun of a guy because he is short, light brown, wears make up and shrieks in his brilliant music is no longer funny. And besides to me, Jamie Foxx is a person whose sexuality I have always drawn into questions, yes he has had a child and has girlfriends, but I am sure he has been there with a man and he shows a lot of the stereotypes he has of gay men.

Half of these so called ultra masculine Black Comedians have always struck as resorting to gay jokes and mild homophobia, because secretley they have had same sex feelings and encounters (Eddie Murphy is one that comes to mind), but I would say Chris Tucker and Chris Rock too. They feel more secure in their own hetereosexuality by these homophobic witch hunts on passive victims like Prince and MJ, yet at the same time having the greatest respect to cover their own sexual taboos. Its a black thing I think that being openly gay is not condoned at all, sorry if that's racist, but why is so much rap sexist and homophobic, along with R and B and reggae music.

And it is sad, because Jamie Foxx and Eddie Murphy both said they respect Prince as an artist a lot and we all know how much Chris Tucker loves his music, yet the one minute I believe this, there they are doing some "Prince is a predatory poof in make up doing Aowowows!". But I think Jamie Foxx is a gifted Prince impersonator and he has the musical nous, a talent of his when you consider how well he pulled off Ray Charles. I don't blame Jamie, he came from a very racist town in Texas and had to work through his own journey.

I think most fans have had the odd joke cracked about Prince or their fandom at some point regardless of their own sexuality. It's not like his image particularly appeals to a gay market either.

It was cool to see a black male entertainer being out there with a message to his music and image using androgyny in the same way as Bowie, Bolan, Grace Jones, New Wave/Synthpop bands from the late 70s/early 80s et all. If pop music isn't there to blow a few teenage minds what is it there for.

sometimes it seems the comedians named above make jokes as a means to deflect their own erotic feelings for P...it seems obvious to me...sheeeit...jamie foxx is quite transparent in his lust for Prince...but its funny because on the surface i get the jokes because im straight too, but honestly speaking, Prince does indeed challenge the perceptions of socalled masculinity and femininity simply because the dude is so effeminate in physical appearance...and not just randomly effeminate, but a very pretty woman..

the "good hair"
the eyebrows and doe eyes
the diminutive waif stature
the clothes
ass out pants/dirty mind thongs
pouty mouth and lips

in the black community, these things would be looked upon gay regardless of who it is.

no one can definitively assess Prince's sexuality anyway...the arguments for and against all have validity..and apparently Prince wanted it that way..and only he and his closest allies know why...who cares anyway?

Good points - but I know Prince liked the Dave Chapelle skit. Why else would he use it as the cover art for Breakfast Can Wait. I also have a radio intervioew he did saying how much he liked it.

Wasn't there that article in the early '80s where some interviewer asked him if he had experimented or something and he said something that wasn't necassarily confirming or denying his what you could call 'bi-sexual activities'?.

I don't doubt at all that he has experimented but I don't think he's 100% that way inclined either.

But yeah, the jokes can be pretty annoying after a bit. So what if he was gay anyway lmao.

I guess I need to be more specific with the people with 2 figure IQ's, all of the examples listed there are Jamie Foxx instances.

.

If you have seen or at least know of all the skits, you would know it is Jamie Foxx, the first two are Living Color skits, when he played all the effeminate characters like Prince, Little Richard (After he arrived in season 3, little richard was played by Keenan Ivory Wayans before) and the cross dressing Wanda. Again questioning this man's complete heterosexuality.

Prince is straight and always has been, he sings a lot about sex with women and has an image for dating sexy women. When has Prince ever sung about any type of gay sex or gay voyeurism.

.

You are pretty much expressing the stereotype he could be gay or bi, because of his delicate appearance, make up, high heels and falsetto voice.

One can always dream. [Edited 6/16/15 9:01am]

Prince is straight and always has been, he loves pussy, sings about pussy and no doubt gets lots of pussy. When has Prince ever sung about or talked about sucking a dick or having his ass fucked?

.

You are pretty much expressing the stereotype he could be gay or bi, because of his delicate appearance, make up, high heels and falsetto voice.

Excately, people confuse a male/femine behaviour with sexual preference.

I never heard him say or sing anything that could possible mean he's gay.

while Prince hasnt openly sang about "sucking dick or fucking ass" so to speak, but he has had plenty lyrics that could be open for alternative interpretation... just sayin...

no he has not.. nothing wrong if Prince was/is gay and IN CASE he really was/ is gay then we would have known this for sure now long time ago.

Why these false rumours, about Prince may be "secretly" gay, like the man has never been married to women..?

Prince is honest about sex and has sung about in almost all his career, he has dated women, and was married twice/ to 2 women.........

MrLegrind & RJOrion. Maybe the truth is that... you may be gay yourselves and reads something into Prince's universe.

Like already written people thinks Prince is gay (those who does not know him at all), because of Prince's flamboyant lifestyle, make-up, high heels etc...

Those who are following Prince closely, and knows his music, never think he could be gay, again he has always been honest about sexuality, why should he lie for us...

This discussion is weird imho, Prince has never dated a man, he has certainly never spoken or written songs about it, lots and lots of songs written about women.

Why do some here needs to say he's gay.. it's beyond me...?

If he really was we would have known this long time ago.
