23 October 1996: tragic death of his baby.

26 February 1998: Prince visits Brooklyn Bethel with Larry Graham. Bethel is the headquarters of the Jehovah's Witnesses.

10 April 1998: Prince performs 'The Christ' at the Essence Awards. This was the occasion he did the 'stauros' speech, insinuating that the symbol of the cross is associated with pagan worship and not a legitimate part of Christian doctrine.

17 April 1999: First recorded instance of Prince distributing copies of 'The Watchtower' to members of the audience during Paisley Park gig.

He stopped swearing altogether (minus an occasional outburst, I'm sure) in 2000.
