What do you feel was the strongest album of the 90's by Prince.

Beautiful album, and personally probably the most under rated album by Prince fans and critics. The sound is so vibrant still to this day.

By far, The Gold Expeirence. Dolphin, Beautiful Girl in the World, Billy Jack Bitch, and I Hate U are all Classics!

The prince album is the most pompous, overworked, overproduced, over-everything'd album the guy ever made. Still, I have to admit Sexy MF, Continental and Sacrifice of Victor are good. I'd have to go with The Gold Experience even though it was ruined by the segues, by coming out too late due to the stupid WB war, by having too many sound effects on Most Beautiful Girl, by not having Days of Wild on it, in short, Prince made a lot of great music throughout the 90s and didn't make one great album. sigh

Then I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. To me, this album is Prince trying to be a lot of things he's not:reggae, rap, rock opera...

And it has aged a million times better than Gold, which was much more in keeping (stylistically) with its time.

I'd put Emancipation up there, too - but I think it's a bit "over-assorted" by comparison.

D&P

Symbol album

The Black Album (not really 90's though, disqualified?)

Come

TGE

Emancipation

C&D

The Vault

Rave

Gold Nigga

Exodus

NPS

I think this was it, on top of my head?

My pick would be The Black Album, but as I have just disqualified that one my pick will be the Symbol album, that one has some really great songs on it. But if you ask me again tomorrow I might well mention another album. Although all Prince's albums in the 90's were spotty to me, there still is lots of great material to be found.

Umm so what exactly is Prince? Rock, funk, country, new jack swing, jazz, new wave, blues or all the above? Rap and reggae pulls from all of those genres. Prince isn't anything he does a little bit of everything. Prince gets knocked for his rap songs by some but others like myself love most of his rap stuff especially on the prince album. So respectfully disagree Prince is rap, reggae, rock opera, whatever he wants to be he does a decent job. 3 Chains Of Gold is flawless. I'm still waiting for Prince to try out industrial music. That would be good to hear.

The Black Album belongs in 1987 - not 1994.
