When was the last time we heard a Prince song and said, "Wow, less is more"? For years, it's been a "more is more" mentality - more tinkering, more overdubs, more production. . For that reason, I vote for When Doves Cry. . But damn you for pitting them against one another Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. Why must you make us choose? This is impossible. That being said, When Doves Cry. All the way. It's one of the best, most inventive, unique, and iconic pop songs ever. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

She's Always in My Hair (Extended Version). I've heard Doves to death. I know it is one of the best songs ever written but it's too played out to me.

She's Always In My Hair for two reasons. 1. that guitar solo. Mindblown. Less is more. When glamrockers where trying to compete in the longest solo's they could, so fucking ahead of his time.
2. the tiny turn with his voice within that special lyric that only Prince can do. "And even if I hit the wrong notes" OMG, that small detail makes the song for me. [Edited 6/5/15 11:53am] [Edited 6/5/15 11:54am] [Edited 6/5/15 11:54am]

As long as I can keep convincing myself that I just NEVER saw him and 3rdEyeGirl try it on Arsenio's show, my vote is for "She's Always In My Hair". I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I LOVE When Doves Cry, but I have to go with She's Always In My Hair. She's Always has a very distinct sound (as does When Dove's Cry); but, She's Always clearly and plainly expresses what the love of his woman means to a man - always great to hear.

Thinking that in all the times I've seen Prince live since 1990 and he never played When Doves Cry at a concert I saw, but he did play She's Always In My Hair and that's a song only diehards know, I'll go with She's Always (etc.)

Hands down. THink back to the first time you heard it. How many times have to listening to a pop song and immediately knew that you just heard a classic masterpeice?
To this day, I can not think of any other Prince song that encapsulates a greater swath of his genius: the vocal performance, the instrumentation, lyrics, the mix, the production. It is as close as you can get to a perfect pop/rock song and no one has surpassed it yet. Save America - Stop Illegal Immigration. God bless America. PEACE

I will say She's Always In My Hair by a slight margin due to the fact that When Doves Cry just isn't very good live. It is a perfect studio song while She's Always In My Hair has some awesome live versions.

Indeed best songs that Prince wrote: 17 days has to be added & then "we're almost there" (beautiful song by MJ by the way). "Money won't buy U happiness but it'll pay 4 the search."
