The Love We Make The Love We Make is an underappreciated masterpiece. It's one of the highlights on Emancipation, a gem on any and all live recordings on which it appears, and hands-down one of Prince's best songs from the post-WB era. Moreover, the lyrics are compelling and powerful. I've heard the song hundreds of times and I still get the chills when he sings about the needle and spoon. It's Prince at his absolute best. What are your thoughts on this song? Do you have a particular favorite live performance? "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

I agree - it's one of the songs that survives the plastic production of Emancipation without feeling super-over-produced. One of the great instances where Prince can preach and call for change or sing a "kum-bah-yah" message and pull it off brilliantly. . Hell, it's just a great song, period - and a reminder that he can still pull it out of the bag as a songwriter when he puts his mind to it. I always liked the idea of a live version more than any of the actual live versions I've heard. The way he changes the melody doesn't sit well with me, for some reason. Always sounds like he's started on the wrong note and can't correct himself.Great one! If you've got funk, you've got style. | |

Lyricaly, I think it's the best he's done since Adore. - The Bergan performance has amazing guitar work! I listen to that version, rather than the album version. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain. |

It's one of those rare songs that's so good that I need to finish the whole thing whenever it comes on. I can be like three steps from my office and running late, but fuck it, I have to finish the song. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

I heard it live at the Camden Roundhouse last year..it really was something else.

This was the final song of the Detroit Hit N' Run tour. After a few encores (and a bit more very short sampler set clips), he finished the concert with a fully-live version of The Love We Make. . It was surreal to hear a deep album cut, for the first time live, as the closer. And it was beautiful. |

It's probably my favorite track from Emancipation. I've only saw him do it once on the LOL tour in 2013. The Detroit version is great. TRUE BLUE |

haven't heard a better live version than 10-jul-2011 North Sea Jazz. It's on a different level because of the way he tells the story, his wonderful guitar playing and because I witnessed it close-by...
