I totally agree. 3121 looked like he/someone actually thought about it for more than 5 minutes before hiring someone's nephew to do a cover for $10.

I always imagine he does the artwork design himself on some pirated program he got from a torrent.

I love the cover, which is something I say very very very very rarely about Prince albums.. although I loved the PlectrumElectrum cover as well. I agree with the font criticism. It looks very cheesy. But again, Im used to it. Its what the music sounds like that counts.

It's not bad, it's not great, and I don't care.

Just gimme the music.

If I also get the vinyl then the cover matters otherwise the tracks go on my ipod while the CD goes into storage where no one will ever STARE at the cover (good or bad).

It's a water color painting, finished, and looks like the artist intended.

Love the art - the fonts are amateurish though IMHO

shame it's cropped from the original art, I would prefer the full art it would of looked more like a classier independent released album. something akin to Bjork or something - lots of that kind of thing in Reykjavik when I went.

I wonder why he cropped it like he did for the album? This composition is far better.

I can understand cropping it, but it could have been done with a little more artistic finesse.

Oh, I was hoping he'd do something with this artwork! I thought it would make an excellent tee but I love it even more as cover artwork for a new album. I like the font too. It's clean and spare, kinda futuristic. The lines and angles of the font is a nice contrast with the irregular lines and shapes of the art. It's a really beautiful and inspired rendering of him. The watercolors work and make a nice statement. The colors are bold and the shading is dramatic--very much like his stage persona.

I liked the PlectrumElectrum cover too until I got my vinyl copy and saw the bad photoshop cropping all around the image It's a shame coz the Art Official Age cover looks sleek

I think that cover is good for all of us Prince optimists. After AOA i was sure the next album cover would look like this..

AOA is perfectly visually represented in artistic acheivement in this image ^
Especially in terms of it's technical prowess and sophistication.

It's been a slow devolvement in quality where fans desperatly look for anything, any little thing to cheer about. A kinda fan Stockholm Sydrome. That new cover encourages optimists to hang in there, quality material may still be in him. ..somewhere.
