Something in the Water...'84-->'2015 For a specific reason, I'm now listening to the 14:43 rehearsal of this song with the Revolution for the show they did the night before Purple Rain the movie dropped on the world catapulting him from R&B/pop star into SUPERSTAR LEGENDARY HOUSEHOLD NAME STATUS... the Revolution were so synth heavy and his confidence with his solo-guitaring at that time was kept for rehearsal until they did the show... and from that moment on, FOREVER PRINCE WOULD HAVE THE CONFIDENCE TO SHOWCASE HIS GUITAR PLAYING GENIUS, and as I'm listening to the '84 rehearsal, I hear a humble man's screams of passion kickin the song into the next level at the 4:55 mark, "I buy you close and diamonds, I buy you fancy cars, you gotta talk to me an tell me Tell me who you really are!! Why does a women? Why does a Women treat a man so bad??" Then matter of factly in a serious tone, kicking eery electric bass sounding guitar declaring "IT MUST BE SOMETHING IN THE WATER YOU DRINK" and to hear his electric guitar come in at 6:46 let me tell you--it charges your energy, puts the plus in positivity inside you... so I write this all to you still blazing in wonder at the June '84 rehearsal of this song then
I switch...
To slow elegant flipping of piano keys so graceful seeming effortlessly as he sings 'Some people tell me I've got great legs, Can't figure out why you make me beg. It does not compute. It does not compute. You think you're special well so do I, why do special women make me cry? It does not compute. It does not compute...why do women wanna treat this man so bad?— piano ends, Drums dropped. Can we talk about love tonight y’all? This song is about love…LOST" Prince showcasing his lyrical ingenuity asking “Who do u really think you are? Must be something in the water they drink” and then at 3:30 launches electric blasts so soulful demanding questioning wondering with blistful echoes submerged in deep pensive cries shifting left and right all the way through the 5:02 mark… And then at the 5:43 mark is why right then and there, “U think I don’t see u… oh yeah I DO!” that is why right then and there, I repeat that is why right then and there that is why Prince in 2015 is still 100 years ahead of all of us humans both musically and lyrically! Homeboy is a prophet in the every spiritual way of the word I can imagine

Wonderful song. Many great arrangements. I love it! "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Don't u realize... this is the only song from way back when where he first gained enough confidence to solo-guitar the rest of his career? | |
