An alternative Prince timeline Most Prince fans agree that after Lovesexy, Prince's albums have never reached the same genius level again. But I was wondering: is it possible to construct 2, maybe 3 albums with outtake material that continue the level of Lovesexy? I don't have deep outtake knowledge, but on Graffity Bridge and Batman, there are some very good songs. So how far could you stretch Prince's genius level career?

A lot of people tend to agree that if some of the non-Prince tracks were omitted from Graffiti Bridge, it would be a better album. Maybe if they replaced some of The Times tracks on there with outakes, maybe? But GB was a movie soundtrack technically so...

The Black album is from 1987, it was only released officially in late 1994. . Next album after Lovesexy Rave un2 the Joy fantastic (No not the 1999 crap fest but) . 1. Rave un2 the Joy fantastic (Recorded October 1988) 2. Fuschia Light 3. Still would stand all time (With the Steeles) 4. Cookie Jar 5. Anna Fantastic 6. The Grand Progression 7. Blues in C, If I had a Harem 8. Dance with the Devil 9. Scandalous 10. I'll take u there (Cover version, but with Mavis Staples) .
Singles - Fuschia Light/ 200 Balloons - Still would stand all time/Pink Cashmere . All of these could have been released in place of Batman and such an album would make a great companion piece to Lovesexy. It is Lovesexy's brooding cousin. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Whenever I plan on listening to a song from this album, I end up listening to everything! And what a climax! I believe I could put together at least 5 or 6 genius albums just using songs made after 1988, but I'd be surprised if anyone agreed with me because it's completely subjective. Still, the great songs are there, just not as consistently as before.

That is definately a matter of opinion. I discovered Prince with Purple Rain and from Parade to Lovesexy I thought he was fading. Batman brought me back and from D&P through Emancipation he was on fire to me. There has been a little inconsistency for me since 97 but TRC, 3121, Lotusflower, AOA and PE(both) have been pretty good albums to me. I very rarely have any desire to listen to much before Batman. 90s Prince is what I grew up on and thats what I really like. He has been around for so long that he has different generations of fans. Not all of us are stuck in the 80s even though I do like alot of 80s by other artists, the 90s overall were for me.

Agreed. Although I would also include those 3 albums you have discarded. Prince + WB = Magic. They should teach that in school along side pythagoras theorum.

Batman (sans movie references) and Graffiti Bridge (sans guest stars) are borderline a continuation of the Lovesexy vibe . . . and if compiled correctly would have the same spiritual and lyrical impact. . Imagine an album like this: . The Future Can't Stop This Feeling I Got Electric Chair Elephants & Flowers Trust Lemon Crush Thieves In The Temple The Question Of U Joy In Repetition Stil Would Stand All Time .

Interesting! I'm gonna try these... It's true that almost every album till this day contains very strong material. But a lot of albums are hurt by songs you want to skip. For example, the highs on the love symbol album are very high, but there are too many lows to make it a truly enjoyable experience. Come to think about it: there are no 90s albums I like from beginning to end, but post 2000 has the Rainbow Children, 3121, 20ten and Art Official Age, which I all enjoy very much! You could do the same thing with several of his albums. In fact, various early configurations of Come and TGE have interchangeable songs on them.

Um, yeah, obviously I know TBA is from 1987. But I see your point that maybe I should it include it there. In that case, I'd say as a bootleg, it was good. But as a 1987 album release, I wouldn't have liked it too much. The better songs would've made really cool b-sides. "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

Fading from Parade to Lovesexy? Maybe with the public but in my opinion this was some of his best stuff ever. It was sad when I went to see the Lovesexy tour and people would only stand up when he played songs from the Purple Rain soundtrack. I think the masses just are not trained enough musically to appreciate his genius work.
