Gimme Your Love - Paisley Park remix Aretha Franklin's album, Through the Storm, seems to have quietly slipped out late last year in a deluxe 2 CD re-release. While not a great album, it did include one song, a duet between Aretha and James Brown, Gimme Your Love, which Prince, as Pailsey Park, remixed for the 12" vinyl single. For 25 years it was only available on that format - no cassette, no CD till now.
I hadn't seen any mention about it here. The song is not that great, but what is cool is hearing Prince interject synth squeals and distorted scream/effects a la the Batdance and Alphabet St. 12" mixes. I'll bet he's responsible for the drums/programming and some other instrumentation too. If you're a completist, might want to check this out. And, hey...it's Prince producing James Brown and Aretha Franklin. Kind of historic and monumental in and of itself.

Wow, I never knew there was a CD single out in 89. Funny this track never shows up in various 12" associated artist fan-made collections. Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths...(Jeremiah 6:16) www.ancientfaithradio.com

Thanks for the post. I kinda forgotten about this track. It's been probably since the early 2000's since I last listened to it. I was always kinda surprised it never made an artist-related comp myself. I just dont think alot of fans know about this. | |
