Leaks and bootlegs: how does it really work?

Back in the 80s, I collected just about anything audible and visible of the man (even to the extent of watching a very grainy 1999 show with sunglasses on just to be able to make out Princes silhouette). I would sent lists to fellow collectors and the trading/swapping took place via classic snail mail on TDK D60/90 cassettes. The whole alternative bootleg world has always intrigued me and the recent discussions about the huge amount of good quality leaks and the ones still to come had me wondering how the “trading/collecting business” actually works nowadays. How do the “original recordings” end up in so-called “inner circle”? Are there any orgers who are part of or know any people that are part of this “inner circle”? And how is the trading done down to the “main stream hardcore” fans, before it ends up on the net to grab for just about anyone who stumbles over it?

depends. It can be someone who was in a close circle , former bandmate who is strapped for cash due to habits or a sibling of former bandmates who sell in need for money.

With anyone other than p u can find easily on the web ... Like anything official or otherwise ... As for p .. U need to find a blog and then get on a mailing list and then when the blog gets shut down you need to have a way of finding it when it pops up elsewhere. In other words ... U kind of need to know the right places all along ... Newbies will have trouble cuz sites alleys get shut down.

I go through phases where I can find stuff but then the site disappears. The inner circle is way off limits tho ... U would need something super rare to get in on that. These days I can only find new leaks that have been out for a while... If I am lucky. I know the prince boots are slowly returning to the web again after p threatened to sue everyone last year ... I say give it a year and the web will be full of p.
