He won best Male Vocalist at the Minnesota Black Music Awards in 1982/83 and the Inspiration award at the 1983gong. I believe Prince also cleaned up at the 1982 and 1983 Minnesota Music Awards (Pan racial).

Also best new artist at 1982 Awrads, but lost to the Time at the 1983 awards.
