'Gett Off' is my jam but I cannot listen to 'Cream' headache for 2 seconds.

'Love 2 the 9's'' is my favorite track of prince , 'Sacrifice of Victor' does nothing for me yawn

I prefer Love Symbol.

The previous album Diamonds And Pearls is a strong album, but I think it's a really "safe" album.Nothing wrong with that. But the follow-up,Love Symbol is much more innovative, adventurous and energized! And might I add,it's more funky.

Yeah that. D&P had its fantastic moments, but there was a lot of bullshit too. Symbol Album is just as guilty, but not as much. Just overall better songwriting on the Symbol Album.

Symbol LP is way better than D&P, IMO ..."Arrogance" is a weak song?...since when?

"what make a man wanna rule the world?.(A double A double arrogance)..make him man enough to say he 50/50 girl?"

P is in rare lyrical form on Arrogance...the beat is sick too...

"Sweet Baby" ... "Love 2 the 9's..."and god created woman"..."Morning Papers"

nothing on D&P can touch them...

and cosign whoever said they couldnt listen to Cream

i always thought "Cream" was Prince's most overrated song...i never liked it either

"Insatiable" and "Walk Dont Walk" and "Diamonds & Pearls" are the only songs on D&P that can hold their own with the best songs on the Symbol LP

I suppose I'd give a slight edge to Symbol, but there's a great album in there if you take the best tracks from the both of them and ditch most of the rap and segues.

Symbol, easily.

Rosie Gaines on "Symbol" would have been great. I love the use of horns on "Symbol", that was missing on "D&P". This was the stage where Princes slower songs began to seem better written than his faster songs, to me.

The only criticism I have of "Symbol" is that the lyrics are often immature, and the Kirstie Allley bits are silly.

"Diamonds & Pearls" is one of my least favorites, but I would love to see Prince that focused, and committed to promoting an album like this again. He's a different guy now

D&P all the way. For Rosie Gaines alone it pisses all over symbol. Nothing on symbol comes close to Gett Off, Willing and Able, Insatiable, and the title track. I will always love 7 and God Created Woman, but with no Rosie, the rapping, Kirstie Ally, and over all cheesiness of symbol kills it for me.

Quite a difficult question but I think I'd have to say Symbol. D&P has some proper good tracks on it (Gett off, Live 4 love etc) but Symbol is more of a coherent album to listen to from start to finish. With D&P I'm skipping quite a bit where as with Symbol I think there is like 1 or 2 tracks that I skip? Also D&P has Jughead on it so that drags it down more than any other sub par song could ever do lol

This describes soooo many Prince albums. You're right. You could actually make two mashups from these records, one with the funk stuff and one with the ballad stuff. I prefer Symbol myself. "Damn U", "And God Created Woman" and "Love 2 the 9's" alone put it at the top. "Gett Off" is pretty great though.

D&P, most def. The charts tell the story. Symbol was more niche in my opinion. Got a bit caught up in itself with the 3 Chains o' Gold soap opera story stuff. D&P is about straight up hit making.

I really heart 'em both. But if I simply must pick one over the other, I have to go with prince because:

My Name Is Prince - It came about a little late maybe but there was a time when that should have been his anthem! headbang

2 the 9's - If you've never wanted to be loved like that, my heart weeps for you. sad

Sexy MF - What? I can call people that I haven't talked to in years and that song will start playing. wink

The Continental - Why settle for a star, when you can have the sun? Seemed like a damn good question to me at the time. nod

Damn U - The same response I have for Sexy MF. kiss2

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Do u have to ask? biggrin Some of D n P is cool, but mostly seems like just an attempt to showcase some hits whereas Symbol feels like a complete universe in album form.

Diamonds and Pearls has more classics. "Diamonds and Pearls," "Cream," "Insatiable," "Money Don't Matter 2 Night," "Thunder," "Strollin," and "Gett Off" are some of my favorites of his.

But LS is waaaaaaay more consistent.. D&P has a few clunkers but LS is consistently badass throughout. With the exception of "Arrogance" (which is shit). I even love "The Flow"

I love both though. A catchy pop 'n' B band album and a fantasy 'rock opera' set. He didn't lose originality in the 90s imo

Love Symbol by a mile. D&P is one of his weakest albums for me.
