Underneath the Cream I've always loved the song Underneath the Cream. It gets little love here on the Org. The melody and vocals are beautiful. The music is relaxed and soulful. Overall, I think it sounds like a junior version of Pink Cashmere. What are your thoughts on Underneath the Cream? "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Love the Hawaiian-sounding keyboard line. The call and response of the sung lines and spoken ones kind of reminds me of "Player." Nice chilled out tune. "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide." | |

Awesome song. I love how he spins off songs from other songs, this one seems to be spun off from Hot Wit U. You'll hear a lyric from one song that becomes the title of another completely different song, he's a fountain of music. There are other examples, can anyone name a few? I really am in love with the whole High/Peace/TCI/TS sessions and I don't understand why they get so little love here, for me it was truly a return to form for Prince, I had a total ball when those tracks were released month after month with NPGMC. I can't put my finger on why I dislike most High era tracks. Some I really love (Underneath the Cream, Supercute, Silicon) but others are some of my least favorite Prince songs ever. Specifically, High, Y Should I Do That, Props n Pounds. The weird thing is, I fucking love Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic, other than that terrible Sheryl Crow cover. A lot of people consider the two projects to have a similar sound. But to me, many of the High era tracks sound...cheap? I'm not a musician or an engineer, so I can't really elaborate. But they just sound half-baked to me. Not minimalist because that's usually a good thing. Just overly simple. I don't know. Regardless, Underneath the Cream is the fucking bomb. I just listened to it five times today. Great stuff. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Very nice song. I thought that period was a mixed bag. I remember fans going nuts when Vavoom was finally released, myself included. but listen to it now and it sounds pretty dull. There were certainly no hnts in his music at the time that TRC was just around the corner. |
