I would say that as much as i am able to be emotionally invested in someone that i don't know, i feel that way about Prince.
Let me try to explain it in a different way. The person known as Prince Rogers Nelson, has been a part of my life's experience for a little over 35 years, so yes, i feel quite a bit of fondness towards him and am somewhat emotionally invested in him, as well.
I feel that way mainly because of the decades of joy his music has given me, but also because i think i can relate to some of his early life experiences, and some of the feelings that they may have brought him.
keep in mind that I've never met the guy and have never talked to anyone who has been a close friend of his. What i do know about Prince is what's been reported in newspapers, books, magazines, etc. The thing about that though, is, after 30 plus years of sifting through all the sensationalized bullshit that's been reported about prince, some things do ring true. Things like his early relationship with his parents, his siblings, and some of the other things in his young life, that probably cause him to develop certain insecurities(as a youngster). In my mind it makes sense that someone who probably didn't feel all that secure(in his home life) as a young kid, would grow up wanting(and trying) to have complete control of his life and his destiny. Also, it makes sense that a person who came from a background such as prince did, might have some issues with interpersonal relationships, and how they deal with rejection, conflict, disagreements, etc.
Anyway i need to make a few things clear. One, i don't want to be misunderstood as trying to be some back seat psychoanalyst. Once again. We're all basically outsiders, but there is enough credible information about prince's early life, to put some two and two's together. My belief is that, to an informed outsider, Prince is somewhat knowable.
And two. Even though i do feel somewhat emotionally invested in Prince, I'm no purple koolaid drinker. To be honest. I can go a few months without listening to Prince. Hell, i haven't even listened to the Baltimore concert yet. And as far as following Prince's personal life now? Shoot, i couldn't tell u what's what, and who's who.
I guess (for me) what it comes down to is i been a fan long enough to where I've ran the gamut. From being coo coo for cocoa puffs over prince, to where i am now. And that is a person who has a healthy, realistic, emotional attachment(and most of the time, respect) towards someone who has given part of himself to others.
Nothing more, and most of the time. Nothing less.
Oh, and how would i feel if prince died? Fuck, i'd be devastated. I wouldn't be on some, the King of Pop died, now i gotta commit suicide, shit, though.
Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

I feel that Prince is one of the two people that could ever understand me completely... Those two, I've never met or known personally (obviously) The other one sadly died a year after I first got into his music.. ”The people that will end up defining ‘Hate Speech Laws’ are the very people you don’t want to define the Hate Speech Laws” — Jordan B Peterson

Yes. I wasn't a huge MJ fan but when he passed it hurt like he was family. He made up a large portion of my memories. So yeah I do feel a strong human connection to Prince.

Prince's actions against his own fans, and also against band members - through the years - this lead me to think he isn't that "human"... he isn't that friendly.

Prince is a jerk weed and needs to realize his musical peak is about 20-25 years behind him... His musical output is a mess...his band is as bad as passing a kidney stone...his dress style is a step a step away from Bruce..umm..i mean Caitlin Jenner... His denial of showing his fans any appreciation by releasing any remaster album is the the ultimate dick move... fact is a re-release of PR would outsell all prince albums combined in the last 15 years!
