I can't find any info on this. Would love to know what it's about.

You're messing with us, right?

.

I have no idea what you're talking about--unless it's just a local prom. I've heard of Purple Rain themed ones.

All I know is this did happen sometime in 1985. I'm about 99% certain "Jungle Love" was played and a caucasian couple attended. That's all I got. The event remains an enigma to me.

Well, here it is. My unedited transcribed interview with Mr. David Baxter. Not only did Mr. Baxter attend the "Jungle Love 85" prom but was also on the planning committee.

BC: It's a pleasure to talk to you David.

DB: The pleasure is all mine. I'm glad i can clear the air about this event.

BC: First off, Why The Time's "Jungle Love". Why not a "Purple Rain" themed prom. Or even, why not a Mr. Mister themed prom or perhaps "Tender Love" by the Force M.D's ?

DB: Was there a "Tender Love" movie ? Did Mr. Mister have a film out. No, they didn't. Nobody was checkin for no "Tender Love" movie. Let alone a Mr. Mister one.

BC: Alright, point taken. But Jam and Lewis did write "Tender Love".

DB:Yeah, but did they write "Jungle Love" ? Did you see them in "Purple Rain" ? No ! We were all about Mark Cardenas and Jerry Hubbard any way. We weren't checking for Jam and Lewis.

BC: But I believe "Tender Love" was in that flick called "Krush Groove". So I guess technically there was a "Tender Love" movie. Well, sort of.

DB: What's up with your obsession with "Tender Love"

BC: I'm just saying, well it has Love in the title. Like "Jungle Love". You could have a "Tender Love" themed prom.

DB: Props man. Props. Did you see all those plants in that photo ? What kinda props are you going to use for photos for some "Tender Love" themed prom. Raw meat ? Come on man. Think about it.

DB: And besides that. "Krush Groove" was on some bullshit compared to "Purple Rain". At that point in time, we were more about getting our "Jungle Love" on then some "Tender Love". Ha Ha. Know what i mean.

BC: Well, why not just a "Purple Rain" themed prom. That way you could just cover all of the bases.

DB: And do what everyone else was doing. "Purple Rain" themed prom's were a dime a dozen. We wanted to focus on our favorite jam from the movie "Jungle Love". Our rival school tried to copy what we were doing and had a "Sex Shooter" themed prom. But that got shut down pretty quick. And can you believe that was at a Catholic School. Props man. Props.

DB: Actually, my favorite jam from "Purple Rain" was "Modernaire" but man, i couldn't find that record anywhere. So if we had a "Modernaire" themed prom, we couldn't get even play the song. And you know why else we couldn't do a "Modernaire" themed prom ?

BC: Props ?

DB: Look at the big brains on Big Chick. You got it Props.

Part 2

BC: So where was this event held ?

DB: Wahpeton High School, Wahpeton North Dakota

BC: Seems like a remote place. Why did you choose that location ?

DB: Because thats where we lived and went to school. What are you an idiot ?

BC: Sorry, my bad. It's 4 in the morning right now and i'm kinda tired. (Sips a cup of coffee)Alright back to the topic.

BC: So, thats not you in the photo is it ?

DB: No, thats Max and Gretchen.

BC: Let me guess Max's nickname was "Mad Max".

DB: Thats what i'm sayin. Every guy who ever met named Max was always nicknamed "Mad Max". "Oh, don't piss off Max he'll get Mad","Mad Max this", "Mad Max that". I actually went to go see "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome" with that guy. He thought the flick was about him. At least that was somewhat better than the time Max and I went to see "Krush Groove".

BC: Well, it was no "Road Warrior".

DB: Your goddamn right that movie was no "Road Warrior". Put it to you this way, if the song "Jungle Love" was in a "Mad Max" flick we would've all been dressed up in "Road Warrior" outfits dancing to "Jungle Love".

BC: Okay, were getting a little off topic. So who was Max ?

DB: Aww...Max. That dude was a trip. He was obsessed with Prince, The Time and "Purple Rain". Like really obsessed. Let me ask you. Have you ever heard of Private Prince collector listening parties ?

BC: Oddly enough. I actually have.

DB: Well, Max was the guy that started those. All I know is Max got a commodore 64 and a modem for christmas in 84. And all of a sudden Max had these unreleased Prince songs we've never heard of. Thats how Gretchen enters the picture.

BC: How so ?

DB: Look at the picture man. Do you think Max could've pulled that date off with no pull. He had some unreleased Prince songs. Gretchen was all about Prince and the Time but not so much Max.

BC: So she wasn't his girlfriend ?

DB: I wouldn't even say she was his lady friend. She just wanted some of the tunes that Max had.

BC: Like what tunes ?

DB: He had some song called "Possessed", a different version of "The Bird" and some song called "Love and Sex". He gave those to Gretchen to be his date at the prom. But back then, Outtakes where on 8 inch Floppy disks and for one song you might have 25 floppy disks for that.

BC: So, I guess Max was a pioneer in the outtake game. Where did he get the songs from ?

DB: Somehow with his Commodore 64 and a modem. At least back then you could get the full song. It's not like those bullshit 2 minute samples you kids are foolin around with today.

BC: I see

DB: But Max started to turn into a real Mad Max.

BC: How So ?

DB: Did you ever see those "Lord of the Rings' movies ? Remember the Gollum and his precious. Well, thats the dark road that Max was on but with unreleased Prince music. It seemed with a every new unreleased song Max acquired he became even more power hungry. He started keeping to himself. Even starting going thru physical changes as well. Look at his face in that photo. You could see he was starting to turn kinda evil. All I can say is stay away from that unreleased Prince music.

This is the funniest shit ever lol

.

Even funnier is in that photo, those people look like the least likely Prince or Time fans ever. I mean the guy has a hayseed Cliff Richard type look going on.

.

I could imagine the Commodore 64 playing the floppy disks, only 2 hours to wait for the computer to load the next 10 seconds of Possessed.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Part 3

BC: So, did anyone try to help him.

DB: Well, we thought we found the right guy that could possibly pull Max out of this.

BC: Who was this.

DB: A guy only known as "180 Gram" Dan

BC: "180 Gram" Dan !!!

DB: He had his own niche going on like Max. You see "180 Gram" Dan didn't listen to anything unless it was pressed on 180 Gram vinyl. He would argue with you for hours insisting that was the best and therefore the only way to listen to music. He would tell Max, that the sound quality he had those outtakes in were bullshit. At that point Max was at the deep end. After he would get off work at the arcade, He would dance nude at "Party Boys".

BC: Party Boys ?

DB: Why do feel the need to repeat my answers. Do you know about "Party Boys", Did you dance at "Party Boys", Do you wanna go to "Party Boys" ?

BC: Well, no sir ! It's just that...Wait is there good money dancing nude at "Party Boys"?

DB: Hell yeah, Max was no fool when it came to making some fun money. But that place closed the summer of 1990 after they lost all that money on their "Dick Tracy" themed all male revue. They were really banking on that "Dick Tracy" movie to go over big.

BC: I see.

DB: Well, anyways Max was getting fed up with "180 Gram" Dan, so he went to this record plant and pressed all the outtakes he had on 180 gram vinyl. He made two copies, one for himself and one for "180 Gram" Dan. When "180 Gram" Dan heard that record, he completely changed his mind on the music.

BC: Well, wouldn't that have sounded like shit given the source material.

DB: Well yeah, of course it did. But Max knew Dan's weakness. 180 gram vinyl. Max completely defeated "180 Gram" Dan's intentions and also converted him to be like Max.

BC: Wow. So did Max ever see Gretchen again or did you see him after that the "Jungle Love 85 prom"?

DB: Yeah, She did and I did. Well, we all graduated together in 1985, and I didn't see them till our five year class reunion in 1990. That was actually a "Graffiti Bridge/Pandemonium" themed reunion.

To be continued...

Ohhhhhh maaaan!!! falloff falloff falloff falloff

Like the Sith lords there's always two. The master and the apprentice. It does seem that "180 Gram" Dan has now become the apprentice. eek
