Prince musical oddities...

I'm not certain why I'm so fascinated by Prince's musical oddities but I've always been somewhat intrigued in the past when Prince would whip out a song out of nowhere and then leave it behind never to be heard of again. Case in point, "Everybody Dance" played sparingly during the Dirty Mind tour and "Drawers Burnin'" played at his 27th birthday performance. I mean heck, I rarely hear more recent bootlegs revisting these tunes anymore. It's almost as if they've slipped away into the ether.

What if any quirky tunes are on your radar?

there have been quite a few in later years, like "black muse", "when she comes",
"we live 2 get funky", "welcome 2 america", "prince and the band", "u want me"
and a couple of others i can't think of right now. they seemed to be full songs he
probably recorded in the studio and 'debuted' live a few times.

however, the one i love most is "2 young 2 dare" which, sadly, still hasn't had an

official release sad

other recent ones include "big city", "shades of umber" and "chapter & verse",
but those might still be released sometimes in the future i guess, so they don't

really qualify as these oddities that you were talking about.

also, was the 1987 (?) performance of "What did I do?" a prince composition or
a cover or?

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I heard "Black Muse" and "Welcome 2 America" one time in concert and then never heard them again...

Electric Intercourse. And there is the Lovesexy tour version of If I Had a Harem. The outtake is pretty crap and i can see why it was never released, but the bluesy take on it in concert deserved a lot more, but was never revisited as far as I can tell.

What about "Turn Me Lose"? Actually go and play it on the Tonight Show and Then totally abandon the song. That one confuses me.

Motherless Child and Come and Dance With Me (with those lameass Fonky Baldheads) during the Rave era. I saw him perform those songs live several times. Then they disappeared. Thank god.

Motherless Child isn't written by him, of course.

Yep. I know. But he got briefly obsessed with it.

I wonder what was going on in his life that made him so into that song.
