Prince's best guitar solo

For me the guitar solo at the end of When You Were Mine from the One Nite Alone boxset is it for me. I don't know what it is but every time I hear it I have to jump up and do air guitar with P. No matter who's around. I've done it around strangers, I can't help it.

There are far too many great guitar solos by Mr. Nelson for me to just choose one... But what comes to mind are the following: I Hate U, Purple House, Machine Gun, Witness for the Prosecution, Calhoun Square, Strays of the World, Holy River, Purple Rain, Bambi, She' s Always In My Hair (Instrumental YouTube release),

Agreed he has more perfect guitar solos than Michael Jackson has number 1 hits! Joy In Repetition and The Question of U are close as well.

My Love Is Forever (Carlos Santana Junior)

I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man (classic)

Clouds (its short but its so soulful)

Im Yours (the whole song is one long guitar solo vs. bass solo extravaganza)

The definitive answer.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Awesome list.

My fav Joy In Reptition was the one he did for the 96 release party of Emancipation at Paisley Park.

Just My Imagination (Small Club)
Something In The Water (Rehearsal for 7/7/84 show)
Joy In Repetition (Emancipation Celebration)
Another Lonely Christmas (Christmas In Uptown Rehearsal)
While My Guitar Gently Weeps (RRHOF)

Interesting to me that when I sat down to think about this topic, nearly everything I came up with was live, and two of them are from rehearsals that none of us were supposed to ever hear.

Shoutout to the studio version of Temptation and also the Syracuse Purple Rain.

The best I've ever seen him play in person is probably Shhh at this.

Best overall is too difficult to call, but especially fond of Just My Imagination at Small Club, and one of the Purple Rain run-throughs on the Lovesexy rehearsals.

JMI 4 sure, but NOT small club. The tone was crap. JMI from the Roseland is current favorite on overall balance. JMI from Warfield if U want to slow-jam.

Shhh on Dance2thedesertgroove (Rio Hotel 3121) is pretty good 2.

Overall THE BEST (from a range of style and difficulty--TRUST ME--POV) is COME on from the Fillmore on "this is my night."

He had a weird head-cold and so singing was difficult.

The guitar did the talking that night...

There is a clip of Prince covering Jungle Strut floating around this world. IMO it's one of his greatest guitar moments ever. Also Bambi live at The Rex early 90's. And something about the second half of Plectrum Electrum just kills me.

Yeah that solo at the end of Anotherlove slays me everytime too. That shouldn't been a single and a regular part of the live set for the 3rdEye Girl shows.
