Least favorite Prince song on each album Part 1

For You - For You

I actually love everything on this album. It's a solid soul album. For You is the pick because it's the shortest, I wish he would've made this song longer. I love the layering technique he used.

Prince – I Feel For U

This is hard because I give 5 and 4 stars to everything on this album. I pick I Feel For U not because I don't like it but because it's my least favorite.

Dirty Mind – Sister

Another tough one this album is a funk, rock party on acid! Full blast fun on every track. Sister is a good song but it is too New Wave heavy for me, not a fan of that genre.

Controversy – Jack U Off

When I was a teenager I looked the dirty lyrics in this song, now as an adult I find them silly. The guitar at the end is the only part of this song I still like.

1999 – Free

This is almost impossible. Not one dud on this album. Although I love the music in this song the lyrics sound forced. I don't believe Prince at all in this song it feels hollow. The fact I disagree that America truly is a free country kinda turns me off to this song too smile.

Purple Rain – Baby I'm A Star

I like this song and often dance to it but I don't really feel a connection with it.

Around the World In a Day – Temptation

Just a silly silly song lyrically which is a shame because the music is so dope. So many genres in one song, Prince is the master of that.

Parade – N/A

I just can't pick one they all are amazing songs, this is in my top 3 favorite Prince albums of all time. I never skip any songs when I listen to it and it was the first Prince vinyl I bought (early this year).

Sign O' the Times – Adore. Just kidding It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night

It's a close race between that and Housequake. It's a shame Prince is such a great live performer but to me it doesn't translate well on this album.

Lovesexy – I Know

Because the rest of the songs are perfect, this one is slightly imperfect (due to the rap).

Don't kill me guys but this is my favorite Prince album of all time. If I had to pick one for the rest of my life I would pick Lovesexy.

Batman – Partyman

I know a lot of people have issues with some of the songs here but that's baffling to me because to me this is Prince's safest album. He wrote a bunch of catchy pop tunes (a la Diamonds & Pearls). Love Partyman but the rest of the songs here blow it out of the water.

Graffiti Bridge – The Latest Fashion (non-Prince) Graffiti Bridge (Prince)

The only non-prince song I love on this album is We Can Funk all the rest are average songs. The title track sounds too much like a musical, I HATE MUSICALS.

Ratings for 1980 to 1988 albums are still songs that are incredible, they are my least favourite songs on great albums, meaning I still love the. The first two and last two albums on the list, I actually have songs I don't like"

For You - For You, its just balls on the antenna singing

Prince - With you, sounds like he is yawning and finally at the end you hear ".....zzz.....zzz...zzz.....WITH YOUUU!!!"

Dirty Mind - No bad tracks here, but least favourite is Sister as its very short and a bit disgusting.

Controversy - Ronnie talk 2 Russia, dated organ stomp with the $39.95 Casio Bontempi organ solos.

1999 - All the critics..., absolute treason to say, but my least favourite on the album, still great though

Purple Rain - Probably Take me with u because of Apples bad singing, otherwise it is still a gem

ATWIAD - Temtation - only the speaking to God bit, the rest is great and hilarious.

Parade - Venus de milo, Just a instrumental and plus Milo is a hot drink here.

SOTT - Nothing, can not name a track as it is perfect in every way.

Black Album - 2 Nigs, again more instruments, although the talking bit is funny

Lovesexy - Dance On, but I still love it, Prince's last true masterpiece.

Batman - Lemon Crush, bad sound, bad lyrics and more, Prince's first truly uneven album with crap filler songs.

Graffiti Bridge - Title track, like a bag of sugar poured down my throat. I really don't like Melody cool or release it much either.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I'll play. But I like almost every song on every album to some extent--this is not at all a "this song stinks" kind of thing for me.

For You - I'm Yours

Prince - Still Waiting

Dirty Mind - Sister (actually, this one has little to recommend it)

Controversy - Do Me, Baby (tough choice, here)

1999 - Free (another tough one)

Purple Rain - Take Me With U

Around the World in a Day - The Ladder (tough)

Parade - Venus de Milo

Sign o the Times - It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night (Slow Love almost got it--but IGBABN is not great and too long, so it's the winner)

Lovesexy - When 2 R in Love

Batman - Partyman

Graffiti Bridge - New Power Generation Pt. II

For You - My Love is Forever

But even then, I really do enjoy this song. For You may not be a sonic masterpiece, but every song is an enjoyable slice of disco-pop/sugar ballads

Prince - I Feel For You

I like Chaka's version better boxed Prince's is a little flat and bland. Still good though. And the first five tracks on the album are flawless, imo.

Dirty Mind - Partyup

I know this seems blasphemous and everybody loves it, but I always found it too simplistic and Prince's voice on this track very annoying

Controversy - Let's Work

I prefer his later jams, this one is just kind of bleh to me. I would have put Annie Christian but IDK (and RTTR isn't really that bad considering it's not meant to be a masterpiece and is just 2 mins long)

1999 - All the Critics Love U in New York

Slightly filler-ish as compared to the rest of the album. I've grown fond of it though (which shows you just how good the album is, no tracks are bad)

Purple Rain - [none]

I *LOVE* every song on this disc, there's no 'least favorite'

Around the World in a Day - America

This song is corny and overrated. The rhythm is cool, but it has stupid sound effects and I don't really like the lyrics. I was going to put Tamborine, but I've started digging it lately

Parade - New Position

But I love this song. Parade is flawless.

Sign o' the Times - It

Every other song I love, whether in studio version form or live form, or both. This song kind of sucks either way. The hoarse screaming vocals aren't my thing.

Lovesexy - Dance On

Sounds unfocused and unfinished. He had better dance tracks he could have used.

Batman - Partyman

The 'Camille' voice kind of ruins this song. It sounds good on certain ones, but not this one. Either way, I still think it's good, but I can't think of any other song to boot off from Batman (a classic, imo)

Graffiti Bridge - Tick, Tick, Bang

There is no redemption for this track. Prince took a punky New Wave classic and made it into.. ugh. I can even love the title track on days my blood sugar is low.

Thibaut

For You - Baby

Prince - With You (because the Jill Jones version is better)

Dirty Mind - I just can't biggrin maybe sister cause it's so short and the lyrics are maybe a bit too much

Controversy - Ronnie Talk to Russia, Jack U off

1999 - International Lover (Because Moonbeam Levels would have been a way better end)

Purple Rain - Baby I'm a Star (Lyrics are banal)

Around The World In A Day - Temptation (not because of the end but because I don't like the song)

Parade - Kiss (great song but doesn't really fit the album and it's overplayed and tom jones sang it)

Sign O The Times - Hot Thing (Banal lyrics and so much better songs could be included)

Lovesexy - Too difficult, maybe Dance On or Positivity but yea...difficult

Batman - Arms Of Orion

Grafitti Bridge - Many of the protege songs (melody cool, round & round, Love machine..) but Prince songs: Tick Tick Bang, Graffiti Bridge

No way. "With You" goes first.

Prince – I Feel For U

This is hard because I give 5 and 4 stars to everything on this album. I pick I Feel For U not because I don't like it but because it's my least favorite.

No fucking way.

Dirty Mind – Sister

Another tough one this album is a funk, rock party on acid! Full blast fun on every track. Sister is a good song but it is too New Wave heavy for me, not a fan of that genre.

You're out of your mind. This one links "Bambi" and "Darling Nikki". I'd go with "Gotta Broken Heart Again", which is just a little more than academic Country-Blues.

Controversy – Jack U Off

When I was a teenager I looked the dirty lyrics in this song, now as an adult I find them silly. The guitar at the end is the only part of this song I still like.

OK, I'm giving you that. "Delirious", "Girl O' My Dreams" are better attempts to 50's swinging rock.

1999 – Free

This is almost impossible. Not one dud on this album. Although I love the music in this song the lyrics sound forced. I don't believe Prince at all in this song it feels hollow. The fact I disagree that America truly is a free country kinda turns me off to this song too smile.

I love "D.M.S.R.", and it's rooted in the legacy. But I'd keep "Free" because it is to "Purple Rain" what "Do Me Baby" is to "The Beautiful Ones". Brave, bold and uncompromised. As for the politics, I don't think he ever mentions the U.S.A. The freedom is referencing to could be the one you may enjoy in the Western World.
But the real subject is free thought and speech, on a more universal scope. It's a Gospel song. Prince excels in this genre. Even ol' sappy "Still Would Stand All Time" stands tall.

Purple Rain – Baby I'm A Star

I like this song and often dance to it but I don't really feel a connection with it.

Me too. It's an impressive live take, the Revolution is on fire, but it has a "Let's Go Crazy pt. II" feel. But the impact of the first guitar chord of "Purple Rain" would not be the same with the crazy coda with Wendy backwards, and the delirious crowd. In fact, you can't touch PR track sequencing. It's like "Thriller". You'd like to remove "The Girl Is Mine", but the screaking door and werewolves howlings that follow would not have the same impact. Thoses were the pre-iPod times. Side A, side B.

Around the World In a Day – Temptation

Just a silly silly song lyrically which is a shame because the music is so dope. So many genres in one song, Prince is the master of that.

That's the whole point. The character singing is a maniac. And the coda is phenomenal, Eddie M. and P's piano responses are pure Jazz, this is above Massive Attack, just listen to the chord progressions, they're insane. We're talking Brian Eno levels here. For years I found "Temptation" just a big mess, and then I discovered Blues, The Stones, The Stooges, Bowie.
In "Temptation", Prince walks into the R'n'R Hall of Fame like Jack Nicholson on "Partyman". Rips all posters, and sprays the symbol across (in purple).
So it's a no. At the risk of being hanged, I'd ditch "Pop Life". Been fun for decades, now it's just a good harmonic progression. But the 1986 live versions save it.

Parade – N/A

I just can't pick one they all are amazing songs, this is in my top 3 favorite Prince albums of all time. I never skip any songs when I listen to it and it was the first Prince vinyl I bought (early this year).

Agree. Like PR, you can't mess with the Parade track sequencing.

Sign O' the Times – Adore. Just kidding It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night

It's a close race between that and Housequake. It's a shame Prince is such a great live performer but to me it doesn't translate well on this album.

I hate to say it because I loved the song for so many years, but in the end, it's "It". Too many songs used the Synclavier's orchestra tabs and ruined this for me.
But it's a tie with "Starfish and Coffee". I don't whether to ditch the Beatles pastiche ("Penny Lane
") or the Velvet Underground one ("Venus In Furs").
You DON'T touch Housequake, nor IGBABN. Again, track sequencing is vital.

Lovesexy – I Know

Because the rest of the songs are perfect, this one is slightly imperfect (due to the rap).

Don't kill me guys but this is my favorite Prince album of all time. If I had to pick one for the rest of my life I would pick Lovesexy.

Heck no. Goodbye "Dance On", years of fun but has aged more than any other song on the album.
But the only thing that really needs a cut is Cat's rap on AS.

No, no, no... You're not a good dancer, are you? You're getting rid of most of the classic shake-yo-ass joints from P...
"Lemon Crush" has to go. Pity, because it was so great at the time. But the second half of the song is just Prince playing with the sampler and the sound console gates.

Graffiti Bridge – The Latest Fashion (non-Prince) Graffiti Bridge (Prince)

The only non-prince song I love on this album is We Can Funk all the rest are average songs. The title track sounds too much like a musical, I HATE MUSICALS.

I agree. "The Latest Fashion" is horrendous, but anyway, most of GB is.

I just thought, a CD with the following tracklist:

01 My Love is Forever

02 I Feel for You

03 Partyup

04 Let's Work

05 All the Critics Love U in New York

06 America

07 New Positoin

08 It

09 Dance On

10 Partyman

11 Tick, Tick, Bang

Would still be really really good. It speaks volumes of how amazing P was in the 80s.

Well it's Prince we're talking about.
Even the crap tastes good.
Even a laidback output as AOA kicks asses when compared to today's standards.

Exactly, 1980s Prince songs we may consider the trash, are easily anyone else's nuggets. It is like trying to select the mere emeralds amongst the diamonds.

.

Compare this to a disc of 1990s or 2000s filler tracks and you have music made for the Hesperides (Or insert some Panegyrical legendary Greek dynasty/myth of brilliance).

.

Some of the people here are being a bit too critical of other orgers choices and that is where the fun stops sorry. Yes some classic songs have been named unjustifiably, but every orger has a reason and that reason why not entirely true to you or others, should still be respected. We should all know that any thread that forces us to pick the mere sapphires and rubies out of diamond encrusted albums is going to be hard at least and vicious criticism does not make the job. We should be able to choose tracks with the moral purple majority raining its wrath upon us.

.

I mean you bonatoc, I mean its great you agree with some of aaroncandersons choices, but savaging him for you perceived wrong choices is not on. I am glad he has not responded, because I would if you get what I mean.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I am glad he has not responded, because I would if you get what I mean.

it's in a good spirit.
I'm a latin and a passionate, when I defend my point of view it may sound violent, but that's just for the sake of not being tepid.
Man I hate tepid.

The Colors R brighter, the Bond is much tighter
No Child's a failure
Until the Blue Sailboat sails him away from his dreams
Don't Ever Lose, Don't Ever Lose
Don't Ever Lose Your Dreams

IMO its Ok to be critical of others opinions as long as it doesnt become personal attacks or profane or needlessly mean spirited... it can be fascinating and at times humorous to witness how different people perceive and hear music, and to expound on why we have the differences...factors such as age, ethnicity and geography shape everyones opinions on music and its cool to see it all unfold...expecially to someone who loves music and people as much as i do...ive both agreed and disgreed with bonatoc b4 and never considered him meanspitited...its just words and thoughts

For You- My Love is Forever

Prince- When We're Dancing Close and Slow not a big fan of his early ballads

Dirty Mind- Gotta Broken Heart Again can't believe how many of you said Sister, his punkiest song and best short song besides maybe I Wonder U

Controversy- Ronnie Talk to Russia

1999- All the Critics Love U in New York or Delirious

Purple Rain- Take Me With U still a dope song. you people that say Baby I'm a Star is the worst must be insane. it's his best self-empowerment song, and it pumps me up as much as LGC.

ATWIAD- Condition of the Heart to me, this song isn't very memorable. doesn't really go anywhere

Parade- Venus De Milo

Sign 'O' the Times- Play in the Sunshine this is my favorite album of his but i usually start it with Housequake, I think the song Sign O the Times is a bit overrated as well: overwraught and doesnt really fit the mood of the rest of the album.

Lovesexy- Glam Slam easily my least favorite song from P's golden era

Batman- The Arms of Orion

Graffiti Bridge- Graffiti Bridge duh
