I'll let the gifs speak for themselves in terms of which album I felt comes out on top

There are way BETTER images that illustrate the point. But the way that Prince's and his #purpleminionsarmywhatev's mentality is set up...
I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I remember that period of the 90's when the fall meant new Prince music!
I could listen to both of those records today and not be disappointed. I may listen to them on the drive to and from work this week in fact.
I don't remember now but the segues I thought were part of a bigger production that couldn't fit on one disc? Even as is, they didn't interfere with my listening to the record.
I agree, Prince was going more towards the top-40? regular music crowd with D&P, but it worked for me.
Maybe, the symbol album, but very close!

There was some weird choreography going on in those days remember the beginning of the "Gett Off" video and the MTV "buttless" performance where it looked like Prince was getting "humped" by the GameBoyz?! LOL

This type of outfit and dance were a bit (too) much for me, by the early nineties I felt it would be good for Prince to tone things down a bit. The outrageousness of it didn't seem to fit the times no longer. It was 'over the top' bordering 'desperate' to me, it screamed 'attention seeker' to me.
For me Love Symbol is the better record. But imagine if you'd put the best songs of D&P and Symbol on one album, that could have been one of his very best albums of his career in my opinion RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Diamonds & Pearls for me.

Love Symbol. It's the one full album I'd love to have seen him perform live. The Morning Papers is one of my all-time favorite Prince songs from the album. "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

If you were to take off the garbage (excessive Tony M. raps *cough cough*) and replace it with unreleased vault tracks from the time, Diamonds & Pearls, in my opinion, would completely KILL ! Lmfao.

"what make a man wanna rule the world?.(A double A double arrogance)..make him man enough to say he 50/50 girl?"
P is in rare lyrical form on Arrogance...the beat is sick too...
"Sweet Baby" ... "Love 2 the 9's..."and god created woman"..."Morning Papers"
nothing on D&P can touch them...
and cosign whoever said they couldnt listen to Cream
i always thought "Cream" was Prince's most overrated song...i never liked it either
"Insatiable" and "Walk Dont Walk" and "Diamonds & Pearls" are the only songs on D&P that can hold their own with the best songs on the Symbol LP [Edited 4/23/15 21:03pm] He's singing "A, Double-R, O-G-A-N-C-E".

Those 2 albums are really one long continuous album that Prince split up into 2. Sorcery! __________________________________________________

Both have some crazy good material. But since Love 2 The 9's is his best vocal performance and vocal arrangement ever, my vote goes to

Prince wrote amazing songs for other artists at the time, songs he should have kept to himself and released on D&P. Allegiance, Hold me, I hear your voice, Standing at the altar, Player, Open Book etc [Edited 4/26/15 13:41pm] Welcome 2 The Dawn

Two of my top five prince albums of alltime!! Symbol album gets the nod though.
Symbol album - fav track - love 2 the 9s, worst - the flow D&P - fav track - live 4 love, least fav - jughead

Yes it was my favorite tour to date. That album so great live plus Prince was at his peak as a live performer at this time. Nowadays it would not be the same though as Prince just can't physically do what he used to do live and being a heavy dance funk album it just would not really work live nowadays but back in the day...DAMN!! that was a show!! I wish a proshot shot existed from this tour

I wish a proshot shot existed from this tour That must have been quite an experience! The closest thing to a somewhat full album performance I've seen live is the One Nite Alone tour with him performing most of the tracks from The Rainbow Children; saw it at the Kodak Theater and just to hear him do the Darth Vader voice live is priceless! "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

The Symbol album by a long shot. Imo it was his last flawless album. And those dissing Arrogance... really? That is one funky tune. And followed by the flow, you got yourself one hell of a one-two funk punch to the face.

I listened again too, and I do hear the Double A Double A that you mentioned. But it also sounds like they're spelling something out at the very end of each chant. Weird. Either way, love the song.

Hmm. D&P has more easily understandable spelling (on the title track) so maybe I should change my vote. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

For me Diamonds and Pearls, even though it probably has more weak material. I find Love Symbol a bit unlistenable despite some massive high points. I just can't get behind Blue Light or 3 Chains o' Gold...
