I actually like this picture more than the album cover that was chosen. I think it really captures the essence of the song Paisley Park. What don't you like about it?

ah fair enough. I just don't like the realistic drawings. I think it looks like the cover of a paperback from the 80's.

The man hugging the tiger, the crepy clown in the sky, the laughing children look like they are captured just before an atom bomb goes off... it's all the stuff of nightmares to me.

lol....it was the cold war era, so I totally see your perspective.

One of my favs and still sounds fresh today.

Underrated project in my opinion.

"Condition Of The Heart" IMO is TOP 5 greatest ballad of ALL time...by anyone..

if not THEE best of all time

I'm with U on that 100%

That is pure genius, this is Prince 1st 'guitar' solo on piano

It moves by so fast, has a very intimate feel

People need to look at this one again, some good quality head phones or on speak blast

Invision Prince in a dimly lit room expressiing himself

I absolutely love the pop-psycadelic-funk on this album. love

I love all songs. And:

The Maxi-versions and the b-sides are stunning as well, all of them.

Around The World In A Day is a Prince masterpiece, imho. music

If this is not a masterpiece... then what is..?! cloud9 worship

Genius. For me looking back. 13 at the time, this was the album where u had to sit back n listen to Prince. However much he wasn't fully mainstream before this you could still strip the music from the man. This was the clincher that said if you like me you have to like the music. Vice versa. Yes he had moments later like D&P. But with this album he laid down his stall

As much as people say that it's not Purple Rain, Part II, it kinda is, just with some psychedilic sounds added in and a slightly slower feel overall.

.

I know everyone at the time thought it was SO RADICALLY DIFFERENT.

.

But to answer the question - yes it holds up. I think ATWIAD gave Prince the confidence to go even farther with his sound, even if what's on ATWIAD is not quite there yet. IMO he took 1 step back with ATWIAD, and then 2/3/4 steps forward with Parade/SOTT/Lovesexy which put him over the top with creativity.

.

To this day, nothing sounds like Lovesexy . . . which sounds nothing like PR/ATWIAD.

I like that alternate cover better also. The cover he went with looked a little amaturish and stiff. I remember the little sticker that came with the record though and that was pretty cool. I put it on my first car (78 Chevy Nova).

.

I remember when this record came out and while I liked it, i didn't love it. I feel the same way about it now.

.

I didn't want Purple Rain 2 like a lot of people did. I loved Controversy, Dirty Mind and especially 1999 but something about this album seemed liked Prince was trying too hard to be different just for the sake of it. For one thing, there's very little funk on it, so that's a problem right off the bat. For another, this seemed to mark Prince's first foray into voice overs and segues (that whole conversation with God was just stupid), somehow believeing they're interesting (I'm looking at you Symbol Album, Exodus and Rainbow Children).

.

The title track, "Paisley Park" and "Pop Life" are great. "America" is pretty good. Never sure why "She's Always in My Hair" didn't make it onto this album. It would have helped and would've been a GREAT lead single. I think I'm the only person here who hates "Comdition of the Heart" but I'm not a big ballad guy.

I've just listened to the title track and Paisley Park backwards using Audacity and it is amazing! Almost better than the originals. I hope the remaster contains a backwards version of the whole album!

Forgotten your meds again?

Anyone knows that only Tambourine should be playbackward. 45 rpm on a 33 rpm record.

Unfortunately I cannot change the speed from 45 to 33 as I wouldn't know what speed to play, but I'll listen to Tamborine backwards as soon as I have a minute, it must be awesome nod
