One of my favorite albums of all time. A timeless masterpiece.

I wonder how things would´ve turned out if he had dedicated a bit more time to this project instead of making another movie.

Almost no real promo videos, no tour, no concept (though it is kind of a concept album, isn´t it? ).

Like Sign of the Times, this one could´ve benefitted greatly from a tour, more videos and more promotion in general.

I wouldn't trade Under The Cherry Moon (film) for a different version of Around The World In A Day (album). No way! [Edited 4/23/15 16:38pm]

lol what IF he put in the promo time, because I too felt with such a change in style he needed to promo this from dark drunken bars performing Tempation to classical halls of Europe & New York City performing Condition of the Heart with full band singers and orchestra

Videos videos videoS Paisley Park, Hello, Pop Life

oh sorry I drifted...

.

What IF he put in the promo time with ATWIAD and then slowed down just a bit to complete a more 'colorful' Under the Cherry Moon, -which means there should have been band performance and proteges throught the movie, and the original director left to do the job?

.

I think both albums could have been taken to higher plateau as well as the movie.

Yes, I want more of everything. But in a give and take situation I'm not giving up UTCM.
What?

I dunno. There's something about those everything and the kitchen sink anniversary editions that kind of robs something from their original moment in time. ATWIAD is classic in its exact form.

I agree. I dont get the obsession with re-releases. I love that Prince leaves the past in the past. Its much more mythic that way, and I love remembering going to the record store after getting a call from a guy i was dating that worked at there ....'it's here! come now!'

omg the excitement smile

I agree! I was also pondering what would have happened if St Paul and by extension, the Family had been incorporated into UTCM?

Sheila E and the Romance 1600 band performing Dear Michaelangelo or A Love Bizarre during the Sharon's night time party, Jill Jones backed by the Revolution on Mia Bocca at the daytime party

Prince and the Revolution Girls & Boys video, where the Girls & Boys scene takes place, the Family doing either Screams of Passion, High Fashion, or Mutiny,

I Wonder U during a bar scene

And a performance of Mountains and Alexis de Paris

A beautiful, vibrant, colorful record I love so much. I remember hating it upon first listen.. it made no sense and sounded weird and annoying in comparison to Purple Rain. Now I realize it was an amazing move, it was just so different from PR (not even just musically) that's it hard to compare the two so I end up loving both for their differences. If he released a similar album (aka Lavender Rain) then I would judge the latter much more harshly.. I think ATWIAD's difference from PR saves it being the follow-up to the biggest album of all time (in Princeland).

Love the era, the psychedelia, everything. I love mixing it with The Family and playing cool

Do you mix them in together?

Can you share a playlist?

I can listen 2 an ATWIAD playlist of all the songs all the time

01. Around the World in a Day

02. Paisley Park

03. Condition of the Heart

04. Raspberry Beret

05. Hello [extended remix]

06. Pop Life [extended remix]

07. Girl [extended remix]

08. She's Always in My Hair [extended remix]

09. The Ladder

10. Temptation

11. High Fashion

12. The Screams of Passion

13. Mutiny

14. River Run Dry

15. Nothing Compares 2 U [unreleased, more instrumental version]

It might seem weird to put a song like "High Fashion" after "Temptation", but the way Temptation fades out and then all of a sudden the flute introduction of "High Fashion" begins clicks with me in a really good way. It's a refreshingly upbeat and relatively simple, catchy song after the two powerhouses before it. And since Paul is pretty much emulating Prince's vocal style all over the Family tracks, they sound so similar (to me) that it all flows well. smile

I also love ATWIAD songs. To be honest, I feel like ATWIAD, despite often being included in the "Prince's Glory Years" of 1980-1988, is still massively underrated. It has a kind of cult-ish fanbase within the org, not like Parade or Sign. I think both ATWIAD and Controversy suffer from following AND preceding 'landmark' albums... Controversy follows Dirty Mind and precedes 1999, and ATWIAD follows Purple Rain and precedes Parade. Either way, I love, love it headbang

Maybe eye do, just not like eye did before pimp2
