Years from now, in music appreciation classes and what have you, people will write essays and treatises about how much of an idiot Prince was. Make it so, Number One...

Nobody cares except for about 12 people that frequent the org. What skin is it off Prince's back to make people happy and release the damn thing? "Purple Rain Remaster" is a no brainer: -Payday; -Gets people talking; -Gets some of that vault emptied; -the remastered music gets the respect its due sonically; - renders bootlegs useless ---I guess he really truly hates fans & record companies. What a guy. No wonder he has no friends, 2 divorces, and burned bridges where there used to be bandmates

Considering that remasters of even huge albums are no longer pulling in big numbers, WB and Prince together were fighting over a small amount of money for a remaster that maybe 20,000 really cared about, and perhaps another 20-100 Thousand might consider buying.
As I've said a billion times over and over, look at the bargain bins at Best Buy, Wal Mart, etc...they are full of crap albums, and a few big blockbuster albums that sold a ton, but nobody wanted after the first few months after the remasters came out.

Note before you read: Sorry to women if I sound sexist. If I do I completely don't mean it that way and I do not wish to cause any harm to anyone. I just thought of it this way, This situation with not releasing the remaster is like a relationship going through hard times between a man and his girl.. The girl wants a nice beautiful necklace. But the man has bigger issues on his mind and can't please his wife with the pricey necklace but at the same time he gives her love, a house and food on the table to keep her happy enough to still enjoy being around him (new albums, listening parties at PP and concerts in this situation). He also realizes that if he gives his girl that necklace.. He knows her too well.. He knows that she won't be completely satisfied with it after all when she gets it... Ok, Sorry again that it sounds sexist but I thought this was the only analogy I could think of at the moment.. ”The people that will end up defining ‘Hate Speech Laws’ are the very people you don’t want to define the Hate Speech Laws” — Jordan B Peterson

The problem with this little theory is the husband in question has more money than he knows what to do with and could easily afford the necklace. But his not giving the wife what she wants and teasing her with empty promises of maybe one day giving it to her, when he's trying to keep her from leaving his sorry ass for good, is selfish, mean spirited and mentally abusive. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

You bring up a good point.Prince's catalog should have been remastered in the 90s,when people still bought CDs.I know he wanted to wait until he had ownership of his master recordings, but by doing so,he missed out on a golden opportunity. These days, remasters are far less profitable/successful than they were back then.

Those are the types of observations one would make if it were all about YOU or any other fan. Its not. Every profefssional has to make compromises between what their careers ask of them and what they want for themselves, and some chose not to let the demands of others dominate their decisions, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. My favorite musician has an album (at least one) recorded for many years but refuses to release it, doesn't appear in public, performed only twice in the past 8 years and basically gives an interview about once every 10 years. I'm grateful that Prince does what he does and has released what he has because he could always just disappear off the planet tomorrow (not to be morbid or anything bt its true) or he could become a recluse like my favorite artist. Change it one more time..

I don't know if I would say that he hates his fans....but he does make it hard for his fans to celebrate his classic music and his career. It's like he only wants us to focus on what he's doing now,but that's an unrealistic thing to ask of the fans.To be honest,I would be thrilled if he didn't release any new music for a few years and strictly focus on remastering his catalog.

I like your theory and you are right, if he gave her the necklace she'd probably complain it's not this enough or that enough...

Sorry? A project that was long hoped for by many fans, hyped as part of his deal with WB & for which we received no news about for months on end? Of course people are going to be disappointed & they have every right.
I hope WB does whatever they can to make things difficult for him legally.

I have stopped waiting for him to remaster his catalogue, if it happens then Im happy but since he didnt even bother to release PR Remaster when it was 30th anniversary of PR then I dont think he prioritize it at all. For Prince protege albums are more important Welcome 2 The Dawn

At this point, the best that those of us interested in hearing this archival material in good quality can hope for, is Prince's death. And frankly, I am fine with that. Don't now him, he doesn't care about me as a fan and his new music is of negligible interest. The sooner he dies, the sooner the vault may open.

Oh I wouldn't hold my breath on that either. If he's sanitized them ala Sexy Motherducker, then he'll likely leave them to the JWs to put out as they see fit for fund raising or to put up for auction to get most out of them before people realize what crap it is.

Oh, I'm sure you're right - that's why I used the word "may." Chances are, we'll get drivel like the reworked Extra Lovable, but maybe he hasn't had time to ruin everything just yet. If he's content with writing shitty music like Plectrum Electrum, that's fine with me, if it keeps him away from Moonbeam Levels.

Yeah, maybe that. Or maybe the husband is literally afraid that it might not be enough for what he gives the wife. Maybe it's him that's the problem that just assumes that the necklace will never be enough... ”The people that will end up defining ‘Hate Speech Laws’ are the very people you don’t want to define the Hate Speech Laws” — Jordan B Peterson

This is old news. Funkenberry said this last summer or so. He just recently repeated the same convo he had with Prince back then. The thing is, Prince was in album release mode at that time. None of his statements to the press or Funkenberry, at that time, mean much in terms of what he may do going forward. Prince was locked and loaded on AOA and PE, and PR was kind of this annoying distraction for him. For the right amount of guaranteed cash up front, I'm sure he would do remasters and outtakes to some degree.

PRINCE = SO OUT !...which of course is a very personal opinion. Still... I'm seriously dissapointed. I'm 49 years old, been Prince fan since forever. For those who do not agree : NO, he's not allowed to change his mind in this case. (He made an official anouncement like he did so many times before, and once again he failes. He can be as religeous a stupid fucker he wants to be, but he cannot fuck around with all of us like that. That's again plain lying to the first degree. I hopa Warner Bothers will take action again...)
Who the hell he think he is ? As much as I love his music, and I will always do, I will never again spend a penny on Prince goodies again. I will only download illegal shit from him if I really really want to listen to something again.
And now it's time to earn big big money on selling everything I have , and believe me, i have a huge collection. A HUGE ONE. Honestly I was wondering to do this for a very long time, but hey, it's time.
Long live the great music he delivered, but I'm not going to feed this so called genius' mouth and off the earth religeous ego once more with a single penny. Sorry Prince. Life goes on, and there are many, plenty, uncountable other greater atists out there these days whose music i enjoy so much more.
I hope you change your mind once before you will be forgotten, but that's never gonna happen does it ? I hope I'm dead wrong.
