The remaster isn't gonna happen....surprise,surprise

Oof. Whatever the guy tweets isn't postworthy. He was just bringing up how it has been a year since the WB deal was signed and obviously was stating the obvious. I agree with 7roses about it's release.

It's only a personal theory but here's what I think might be happening:

- Prince gets masters back, i.e. more money on sales from now on, but...

- Prince is still contractually tied to WB for licencing, i.e. he still can't do what he wants with the old albums, he in fact can't rerelease them without WB

- Prince feels he's still a slave, because he feels he should just be free to do anything he wants with those masters

- Prince is also pissed because he can't get the masters from The Time, Sheila and the 6's alongside his own, which means he's somehow gonna have to settle this later, possibly in a legal battle

- Right after deal is done, Prince bashes WB in interviews as a warning of things to come if they piss him off

- Prince manages to have WB release his last 2 albums first, against the promise that the PR remaster will come for xmas.

- Prince does little promo for the new albums, because he doesn't care and that's his "fuck you" to WB.

- Prince doesn't deliver remasters and bonus material, because he wants to get free of his new slave contract and hope WB, unwilling to start a second public bashing war with him, will eventually get tired of his shit and tell him to go to hell with his masters

- WB, realizing the cost of a legal battle and the bad publicity that'd go with it would do more harm than good because Prince can always refuse to promote or sabotage the project in more than one way if they force him into doing his part of the deal, decides to play the sit and wait game, too

- Prince can't release any remaster without WB, and doesn't care

- WB can't release any remaster without Prince, and doesn't care

This whole thing was for bloody nothing and we're just as stuck as we were the day before the new deal was announced, God knows for how long because both parties can wait until the end of time for all I know...

Well, some good did come out of it. I got to see Prince sing "Electric Intercourse" for the first time in 30 years, right up close in Birmingham

Still, I think it's been pretty clear for a long time that things like remasters are something that fans care about a lot more than Prince does.

At this point, The Winds of Winter will be out before we get a remaster.
