So over 3rd eye and rant about remasters

I'm really over this band... It's been years now and I feel like it's dragged on for a bit too long.. The sound, the look, the fro...

Most of us here loved plectrum electrum and we wanna hear that record live.. I feel very disappointed about The new relationship with Warners going sour already and plans to release remasters have disappeared..

Meanwhile Paul McCartney is preparing yet another unbelievable box set of another classic album "tug of war" with beautiful artwork and bonus tracks... Why can't we all be looking forward to the "Parade Box set" or the bonus tracks on a deluxe version of "diamonds and pearls".

Rant over

I totally agree!! All other artists and performers do so much for their fans and re-issue box sets of releases with bonus stuff, rare DVDs, etc. and yet we get nothing from Prince, except pathetic online releases and sub-standard material!!!

Otherwise I like your rant! - so sad really.... that we can't have the remasters of the WB catalogue!

I can't figure ut why Prince is denying us those,

I think maybe he is just too greedy about the: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.., right?

Or maybe he just don't want to flood the market with his brilliant music from the past, because that would probably overshadow his new crap music, like the new Baltimore "garbage" song..

Really it's such a pity imho, those remasters really needs to be freed, better soon than later. sad

Not sure what you mean about $ being a motive. Denying oneself additional revenue streams doesnt equate to greed.
Change it one more time..

It comes down to 1 Thing & 1 Thing only:

Prince is not a nice person.

He doesn't want to play along with record companies-even with an agreement in place!

He doesn't want to make his fans happy knowing they would enjoy Remasters!

If Bryan Adams, Tears For Fears, George Michael, etc. can put out boxed remaster & the sun still came up the next day, so can Prince. I'm sure those other acts didn't have their world's come crashing down around them because of remasters.

I just think the only thing holding back the remasters is- Prince is not a nice person. He simply can't find it in his heart to deliver something that would give people pleasure.

To be honest this is really the summation of prince's career. It's not really a debate about quality or quantity. He is simply exhausting. Obviously we don't know what goes on behind the scenes but why oh why does always seem so problematic. It doesn't matter what any problem is. If something doesn't look like it's getting resolved it just gets boring. God if people can get tired of famine why does Prince think they're gonna hold out for him. Yes Prince is musically God but he has to realize they also have lives. Gosh I've never slagged him before but it wearies me

What a ridiculous thing to say. Do you know him? Does he owe us remasters? Does he owe us ANYTHING?

So, because Prince hasn't put out a reissues of albums from 30 years ago, he's not a nice person? In case you forgot, he gave us TWO new albums last year.

You REALLY need some perspective in your life.

There was at least an album's worth of material uploaded online, too. So let's say 4 albums in 5 years, and that's still WAY more than most artists of his stature.

Michael Jackson used to release an album every 5 years or so when he was alive. Janet hasn't released an album in 7 years. Madonna's done 2 albums in the last 5 years.

Yes, it is extremly disappointing to say the least. Just the other day I purchased the deluxe remastered version of Disintegration by the Cure. It's a 3 CD set where the first CD contains the original album, the second CD contains demos and B-sides and the 3rd CD contains live versions. I thought to myself "why can't Prince do this." Overall The Cure has done an excellent job of remastering / reissuing their entire back catalog - Prince should take note!

Unlike most artists,Prince doesn't want his fans to celebrate his past work.He only wants us to focus on what he's doing now. That's an unrealistic thing to expect from the fans.

The problem with Prince is that,he never thinks from a fan's perspective. He doesn't realize the joy and excitement that fans have for remasters, bonus tracks, and other goodies. How many times have we bought a remastered set from one of our other favorite artists and thought 'Damn, why can't Prince do this?'

I'm hoping for another 3EG album, not an abandonment.

Remasters would be nice, but I'd always rather have new material. Too many people just hanging around hoping for some nostalgia trip that Prince isn't interested in.

You'd think the fans of an artist who constantly seeks new sounds as he continues to record music would be aware that he's not much for looking back and resting on his laurels (as a recording artist).

Here's to many more years or Prince recording new material! I'd like to hear Prince start playing with sounds from other cultures a little more!

but here's where the disconnect comes in....

Prince may hate to dwell on the past and look back, but for many fans, that's exactly what they want to do.I guarantee that a remaster of an old Prince album filled with bonus tracks, demos, alternate versions, and outtakes would get more attention and excitement than a "new" Prince album.

Amen to that! Rob went above and beyond with those reissues, especially with disc 3 of Disintegration. When the Entreat ep was still available for all those years with only 8 of the 12 songs, it never made sense to me why The Cure left the remaining 4 songs off. It was a bizarre release, and Im glad he acknowledged it and made up for it by adding on the rest. When the hell is the deluxe edition of Wish coming out?! That one is very much in need of a sonic facelift ala remastering job.

Get in your mouse, and get out of here!

Exactly. Thank you!

Prince DOES in fact "owe" remasters, because he came to an Agreement (contract?) to see to their release...& he has not fulfilled that agreement within the time specified in a press release!

As he's fully aware--(he said as much in an interview)--"the fans" care about the remasters. So why not do this for the fans and bank some $$$? I'll tell you why- he doesn't give a damn what you or I, or any of his fans would like.

So: between an agreement with Warners & pleasing the fans--he couldn't find it within himself to put aside his need for power & control & expidite the release of "Purple Rain 30".

Deluxe editions are a pretty regular occurrence in the music industry. Prince remasters aren't that Hard to make. The hangups originate within Paisley Park.

Other groups and recording artists know how to please their fans. Prince is hell bent on doing everything on his terms even if it means alienating a lot of people.

As to "rediculous": your comment about "Do you Know (Prince)? Any of us who have followed Prince for 30+ years have heard all the stories and conclude that he's an excellent musician--but not a very nice person.

Do I need to know Sadam Hussein or even Chevy Chase to understand what kind of a guy he is? By your logic, Adolf Hitler shouldn't be judged since none of us have had ever met him. That's illogical.

Anyways, I respect your opinion Militant. Cheers!
