Mainly out of habit and because I enjoy visiting Prince.org. Prince was my teenage idol and his 80's run was (and still is) incredible. He is still a great live performer and most of his later records still contain a few interesting tracks. So I will probably keep following him until one of us dies! RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time... |

And for me, it's because of the creative drive and self-contained talent. Whatever qualms I have about his music being pedestrian or overdone/produced, I think about the effort it took. We like to think of Prince as effortlessly creative, but it's awesome to realize he put in all those hours creating songs so regularly and frequently it's literally awesome to wonder about the discipline, drive and talent it took for any one individual to work creatively so intensely for so long.
If there was such a thing as the Recording Olympics, he'd have many gold medals :the guy is a recording athlete, he'd win every event from the 100M to the marathon,, there's just very few people who have done what he did on tape for so long at the quality he achieved. That this quality was not always an astonishing landmark in music history is irrelevant, on top of being utterly unrealistic.
So yeah, it's because I really like his music.
