1999 Album - only by Prince or by Prince and the Revolution? I was always intrigued by 1999 album cover. It says Prince but also 'and the Revolution' written backwards inside the 'I' letter. However all the credit goes to Prince only. Was it a mistake, or Prince changed his mind but left album cover unchanged? I tried to look on internet but could not find any explanation. Does anyone on the org know, please?

It was more a hint to things to come. Officially it's a Prince album. I've read that one reason was that P knew Dez was on his way out and wanted to wait until he had a stable roster to officially name the band but IDK where this comes from. More likely he was just toying with the idea of naming it and did it through this hide and seek game, then when PR became a solid project he understood it was in his best interest to give the band an identity that was more solid than just "Prince's backing band", for the mythos. Anyway it doesn't make a huge difference in the sense that "Prince And The Revolution" albums are just as much solo Prince efforst as any other albums he released. That's quite an interesting angle to it. I do agree though that in the end the Prince albums with or without a group are pretty much his solo ones. Thank you for your input.

by Dirty Mind he started adding more band background vocal and instruments Lisa Coleman especilly, did a lot of background vocal and according to many of the bandmembers way into the 1990s like Rosie Gaines Prince would do studio stuff with the bands and then play over instrument parts and not give them credit. Even Prince said in a 1990 interview by Controversy he had the band doing more stuff on the albums. Also saying that they didn't do a good job recording credits then. Most of the behind the scenes stuff I doubt well ever know. But i digress, Dirty Mind had Dr Fink on synth/synth solos, Lisa Coleman on vocals as credited Controversy:Jack U Off was full band or partial Dr Fink Bobby Z and Lisa 1999 Dez Jill Jones Lisa Coleman, Vanity Brown Mark Wendy Jamie Shoop (vocals) etc Purple Rain was a large band contribution:Let's Go Crazy Take Me with U(full band) Computer Blue(full band) Purple Rain IWD4U Baby I'm a Star(full band) and we see the appearance of 'other musicians' I like looking into the 'other' musicians string arrangements by Lisa Coleman: Novi Novog, David Coleman, Suzie Katayana(also did work on Sheila E the Time & Apollonia 6 with other musicians even: like Nick DeCaro, and Larry Williams Around the World in a Day, America, Pop Life, the Ladder(full band) Around the World in a Day:David Coleman Jonathan Melvoin Susannah Melvoin Novi Novog Suzie Katayana Eddie M, 7 or 8 other wind/string instrumentalists, vocals by band all over the album, including Taj Sevelle Parade another with about Girls & Boys, Mountains, AnotherLover.. full band pieces, Wendy & Lisa on more instruments/vocals with Prince, Sheila E (vocals-cowbells,) Eric Leeds & Atlanta Bliss, Miko Weaver(Mountains) Jonathan Melvoin(drums-Do U Lie?) On the other hand he would often have people believe that the band played on every track when they didn't at all. Fair enough. There also were uncredited guests on for You and Prince. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

That is true I don't think the band members would have minded the truth either I always felt if he had out of 10 songs 3 All Prince songs, 3 Prince with guesting musicians 4 All Band Especially for the proteges, he had those people 100% dedicated, but they are musicians/artists I would have been perfectly happy knowing the truth Jill Jones & Susannah Melvoin were never really given open credit on what songs she sung on (especially on the proteges)
