How did he get access in Linn drum machine and Oberheim syths? Those weren't exactly cheap either. And what about studio time? Were they even recording demos? This is what a thift store look should look like, but Prince was not going back to a cheap look just for accuracy.
At what point did Prince start having everything custom made? I'm assuming Controversy era for himself, then the 1999 era for the whole band. On a really side topic, what the hell did Lisa wear in Purple Rain? I think she was just a floating head through that whole movie.

Are those screencaps or stills? I seriously don't remember those scenes filmed like that. Apparently, Lisa was a chain smoker. It seems the band dynamics were portrayed better with the Time even though most of them had no lines. You got a real feeling of why these guys were together. The Kidd's relationship with his band ranged from antagonistic to none at all.

It's shocking from a photography sense how much those shots look like they came out of Blade Runner. I bet Magnoli was a fan.

I say the same Prince was a huge fan of Blade Runner, even said it influenced his 1999 sound/look Listen to the echoey piano playing in Blade Runner, very similar to 1999 Purple Rain piano sounds like Fathers Song

How do you know he didn't save up for ten years for his fancy motorcycle and had it customed by someone who needed the money and didn't ask for much money from the Kid or liked the Kids music.
I do know musicians in clubs are paid shit. lol All you others say Hell Yea!!

"jeans and a old Parliament-Funkadelic t shirt while around the basement eating Doritos and playing cheapass cassette tapes"...LOL! We've all been there before, haven't we? The Kid probably made some money (from gigs) to buy gear. His gear was cool but not really top of the line stuff.

In Purple Rain he had not inherited anything. All that gear on the stage at the 1st Ave came from somewhere and someone owned it. Those clothes were not hardly second hand - they were custom fitted garments. YOu could spend your life in thrift stores looking for tight satin pants with buttons down the legs that looked like what the Kid had on during I Would Die You. And the purple trench cost with the studs is just too radical to explain away as remnants remnants - and even if it was, how does he get an entire wardrobe from that source. Everything you cite calls for a ridiculous amount of conjecture on th part of the audience. A good story explains this. In fact, I was never clear on what the problem was In real life a relative of either Lisa or Wendy's made his coats and clothes as well as the bands. Of course being a relative she would charge less, enough so he could afford it. I'm happy to assume this is the case in the move too It was Andre Cymome's sister who made his clothes. Can't you stop dragging W&L into everything.

Even though his dad was portrayed as abusive and neglectful in the movie, it doesn't mean he completely ignored his son. The fact that Prince was in his mid-twenties and still living in his parents' house implies, to me, that they were still paying for his expenses.. since he more than likely wasn't paying rent or food, he probably used it on clothes and such. But since when did any Prince movie make sense? Maybe do, just not like did before
