Ok some of you have to vote and stay there lol I think we all love both of them. They are from that classic Prince era additions to the list and changes made

I prefer Lovesexy. It's a tight, focused, consistent album from beginning to end. It's like a journey through good and evil, sex and salvation, love and lust.A very intriguing concept album.
Parade is a great album, but I don't think it holds together as well as Lovesexy. The first four songs come and go so fast they almost sound like unfinished demos.Prince was obviously trying to do alot of different things on this album, which is admirable, but the album is a little unfocused.

My vote goes to Parade. [Edited 3/30/15 21:19pm]

The whole Parade album is indeed criminally underrated and overlooked in general, probably because it was tied to the "Under The Cherry Moon" movie fiasco. But it is one of Prince's best and most adventurous albums and deserves more credit. RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I love both for sure. However, gun to head I would have to go with Lovesexy as I think it is funkier and more complex overall, both thematically and musically. To me it represents pure Prince as his most ingenius as it was his first full-fledged creative offering completely free of the Revolution. It is so multilayered. I wrote music reviews at the time of its release and it just blew my mind. I love every track on it (except Glam Slam), especially Anna Stesia, Positivity and Lovesexy. Add to it the extended 12-inch versions and b-sides, plus the amazing Lovesexy tour and it was an amazing, very special time. Parade, as great as it was/is, it was not supported by a full tour and the film it was associated with was awful. If you've got funk, you've got style.

Actually No is The song's music is largely taken from The Ball(July 1986) Parade was supported by a full tour (Around the World in a Day wasn't) Every song on the album was performed on the 1986 Parade tour including the extended version of songs, and Bsides at various times:Alexis de Paris & Love or Money

No doubt, it's Parade. That was the last album I bought by him for a long time (It took me a while to warm up to SOTT). Lovesexy just doesn't have strong album tracks, although I love Alphabet St.
I can do without the French Riviera piano pieces on Parade, but guess if it comes down to it, "Mountains" puts Parade over the top for me. Love that track.

I know this is like swearing in church, so sorry to all you people I will hurt right now. But I must say that I really loathe Anna Stesia. I see the concept, but the melody was and always will be a "skip" on the album for me. I cannot believe that it made the Peach and Black top 20 instead of Alphabet St. And mod, you can change my vote to Parade & Lovesexy. I love 'em both too much [Edited 3/31/15 7:28am]

All I can tell you is the Parade Tour never came to Los Angeles. I attended every tour and most one-offs Prince did in and around L.A. from 1979 through 2005 (moved to Charlotte) and the only reason I got to see the Parade show was because he did perform at the Wiltern Theater (spent a full day waiting in line for the tickets). Awesome show. The Lovesexy tour, on the other hand, was a full-fledged affair that I attended at the L.A. Sports Arena. If you've got funk, you've got style.

This is really hard. I have to go with Lovesexy, but have to say i experienced Lovesexy fully when it was released. The tour, the video's, the singles.
Lovesexy was like a trip for me when i first heard it. I still remember that day!
Parade i heard on a cassette first and it blew my mind.
Like said, it's really hard, i listen to parade now more than Lovesexy.
still go with Lovesexy because of all the memories.

I still think Parade is one of the most inventive albums ever made - the sounds are unlike anything heard before or since. And you can still dance your ass off ot it.
Lovesexy was definitely a slight come down afterward.

when U say "it was not supported by a full tour" U mean it didn't go everywhere in America? I believe the Parade tour was full fledged too, he just wanted to hit more countries... During the Purple Rain tour it was all in the USA(the World experienced the tour via the live showing in Syracuse) then for Parade he did about 20 different USA cities, and then mostly Europe and then Japan Sign o the Times was all Europe (the rest of the world or the States got a concert film) Lovesexy was like 60% Europe 40% States

I think it's a great measure of how much a masterpiece Parade is when the majority of people here out it above Lovesexy. Lovesexy is a total fucking masterpiece. And Parade is usually seen as better. That's like a whole tier above the top tier. Holy shit. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

I agree wholeheartedly I'm mean when you start comparing the albums from 1980-1988 You are messing with the Holy Purple grail

Just as hard I think is comparing the trios of 1999-PR-ATWIAD against Parade-SOTT-Lovesexy. As hard as that is, I would have to go with the 1986-88 run. Not as many hits but man that shit was deep! If you've got funk, you've got style.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
lol Yes it was deep
The only thing that the former has over the latter is 1999-PR-ATWIAD produced 3 singles w/Bsides Parade-SOTT-Lovesexy only 2 Bsides and there were enough options to choose from

2 of my least favorite albums actually. I like Mountains and Another Lover on Parade and Anna Stesia and Lovesexy on Lovesexy. The rest of the album on each is really bad to me. I guess if I ABSOLUTELY had to pick one of these two I would go with Lovesexy but thats only because Anna Stesia is one of my alltime favs. 2 bad albums to me

Parade by far. That album does not age. Sounds as fresh as the first day I played it back n 86. It flows incredibly well considering the number of styles it tackles. It also screams Spring for me...very happy and upbeat. But ends so hauntingly with Sometimes it Snows in April. Also love the long versions and b-sides. It's crazy how many times I have played this album and i still listen to it on a regular basis.
Lovesexy has not aged well imo. The album has always felt rushed to me...like he slapped it together after trashing the Black Album. That could be a result of me knowing too much of the history. But I have never liked Eye No (much prefer The Ball) and the production is way too over the top. I do have a tracked version and glad I can go right to Annastesia and the title track. I do LOVE the long version of I Wish U Heaven though and Scarlet Pussy is one of my fave b-sides of all time.

Love them both, and Parade has aged better (due to less reliance on synths), but I'd have to agree with Prince that Parade was put out before he had good enough songs in the bag. So I'd have to go Lovesexy. Although I prefer SOTT, I think Lovesexy is a sonic masterpeace. .
