New topic PrintableI wish I could sue Prince. I love the man, but I'll never recover from the mental trauma of seeing the best pop musician who ever lived condescend to the point where he had a SHOUTER...(not rapper), like Tony M, and silly dancers like Kirky J and Damon D dressed in Star Trek Next Generation uniforms pretending to be hardcore gangsters...(would get ass kicked by The Golden Girls), ruining his reputation as a serious musician.
And maybe sue him for taking a talented singer like Shelby J, and making her shout "Put Your Hands Up," at the top of her lungs over 50 times a night.
Yeah, makes about as much sense as Prince getting sued...but Prince loves lawsuits, so he'll probably write the verdict on his face if he wins, and write at least 20 songs about it, and will play them live over and over and over again, and never miss an opportunity to remind the world every 20 seconds that he won said lawsuit. I can't wait...

I think those are assumptions. Tony M in fact really did think he was hard, why would Prince try to make them into something he himself wasn't? They were an influence on him, not him projecting things onto them as he does with proteges or something. . And Shelby was like that before she joined Prince's band and worked with Larry, so Prince knew what he was getting when he hired her. Change it one more time..

Regardless of the image....you never saw such low quality people in a band with Miles Davis. You had world class musicians. No awful people with no talent. Even a great band like the Eagles, who are not even 5% of what Prince's talent is don't stoop so low as to have any no talent hacks on stage with them. Prince loves CORNY ASS boring shit. And with his talent, it is an eyesore. So I want to sue Prince for this.

Lol.. yeah i dont disagree with any of that, but his capacity to be completely corny and ridiculous, I mean I could hear that from the very first album. The fact that he's fearless in that territory is part of what is fascinating about him (to me at least). He goes from brilliance to complete corniness in one broad stroke, but he owns it somehow. Change it one more time..

1) The Judges make The Voice.
2) The Judges make The Voice...
3) The Judges make The Voice......
4) There's no place like home......
5) The Voters seem to vote for the archetype-contestants...
6) A certain judge keeps picking his own archetypes...
7) Who here downloaded a track from any contestant or winner?
8) Mr. Nelson was at The SNL event...Eh... It's promotion for The Voice. It's an "EP" or a "Mixtape", and The Voice doens't seem to be promoting her....Artist have to eat, and she wasn't a grand-prize winner...They should have let her go ("Give Her Free!!!!!).
How cold they hold her, and no singles, or commercials drop?
Resolution-Prediction:
It will be her Mixtape offer by Mr. Nelson to add the best to her real CD. Maybe 3-5 of his songs make it. I see it as an re-audition. He's big eoungh to take the chance, and not be ruined, or rolled-over. She will return, and perform. Then, she may get with a "Trap-Hop R&B" producer...
To some orgers who feel that D'Angelo, and "Uptown Funk" may inspire him...I think this might be a different way...Show NBC/The Voice his worth as a producer fo real pop-music....becasue everyone cannot sing Trap-Hop or World-Dance Music tracks..

. Please point me to the evidence where Judith Hill was forced at gunpoint to enter The Voice. . The ridiculous contracts of The Voice are nothing new, all TV "talent" contests have them. Expecting those contests and its sponsors to be lenient is childish. . Judith Hill wants to be famous, and it wasn't happening. And thus she went on The Voice. And it didn't happen. But NO ONE FORCED HER. © Bart Van Hemelen

ANYTHINHG that gets the product in the public eye .. Still makes no sense. First of all, there is no product, because the free download was only for a few days and there is no release date. Although Prince has a habit of promoting albums before they're out. But he didn't start this. Secondly, if you want to stop the album from coming out, you wouldn't want to add to its publicity, right? Seems to me this Ms Cherry just wants to show Judith who's boss.

i agree with KCOOLMUZIQ and even though i know this will be unpopular; luv2tha99's P knows who has kept him in the business all these years- HIM. i understand as fans we want what we want...for years all i wanted was for him to just stand still and blow my hair back with a blazing guitar solo that went on for hours until i was wrung out from the sheer awesomeness~ didn't happen (yet). it's on my bucket list though! yes, we as fans have supported him in his career but whether you came to the party like me in 1979 or later, you had to know he was going to do things his own way. he might crash and burn while doing it but it won't be because he played it safe. as an artist/writer myself, i produce art for me and i feel blessed if others take enough interest to spend their hard-earned $$ on it but i am not a manucturer and UNABLE/UNWILLING to produce someone else's vision of what i should be doing unless working on commission (which i avoid unless i absolutely have to). life's too short to try and sublimate your inner vision. that being said, there have been times, i've pushed back from the table and refused what P was serving which is my (only) right when he's not giving me what i want. i don't fault him for it, i just wait until i gotta have it.

He didn't have Tony M on his first album. He didn't put nonsense on his albums. You can find spots of corniness easily, but the level he reached from 1990 onwards was striking. He reached self-parody level with his bullshit in the later years.

What a turn of events!
Well, if she was signed in 2013 and here we are nearly half way through 2015, there's something wrong with that. Why was there no Judith Hill album before Prince decided to step in? And given the fact that he could produce such quality in a matter of months?!
You can't keep true musicians and artists unproductive for over a year. As someone else on the forum said, "Artists gotta eat too."
This story has signs of a scorned producer (Cherry) who has been upstaged; Prince saw a unique talent that was inspiring. She was probably itching to make some real music, or at least to release something that could get some cash flow started (nothing wrong with getting the benefits of your labor).
Well, I hope at the very least that it brings to light the probable evil nature of contracts on those talent shows that people love to watch on TV.
Don't let Judith's talent rot in a cell somewhere.
Thank you, Prince and Joshua! [Edited 3/29/15 17:13pm]

people might be overestimating prince's involvement with this album. I don't think it's an album of judith singing a bunch of prince songs, I think many of the songs existed before prince became involved. And the statement from sony/cherry mentions that their songwriters are among those who are pissed off at the free release of the album. So it's possible that judith had a bunch of songs in the works with sony and their songwriters, making it easier for prince to finish the album so quickly.

. Prince did so with Margie Cox. Locked her in a contract. Oh,a nd this was happening at the same time Prince was whining about WBR holding him to the contract he signed. .
. Only an idiot wouldn't know about that. .
