How well do Prince's new songs, meet a list of my requirements 4 years ago. About 4 years ago, a thread about Fantasy Prince albums http://prince.org/msg/7/366982?pr , I produced a list of 9 things, that received a lot of respect and praise. So I thought I would see how closely last years album met my list of requirements.
. Adorecream said: Any album that has the following
1. Completely new and contemporary sounding. 2. No played out Vegas horns or nonsensical hip hoppery gimmicks 3. No and I repeat NO influence by starlets, proteges, Bimbos, Bimboettes 4. 16 full length and well written songs, no songettes, segues or instrumental breakdowns 5. Full and open distribution through record stores the world over, no limited releases in newspapers or struggling department stores. 6. Immediate release of full length high quality pop single 7. Absolutely no religious/Jehovah or bigotry based lyrics of commentary (In fact one song has to be called "I'm sorry my LGBT sisters and brothers) 8. At least 3 steamy sex songs (I high nrg pumping tune, one steamy falsetto undress you ballad and one sexy R and B slow jam) 9. Full track listing and decent pull out note section, it must be marketed in a proper CD contained.
. Getting even one of those would be a fantasy now. . Plectrum Electrum . 1. No, lots of dated rock type songs, some songs a few years old. 2. Afew horns here and there, but the rock sound keeps the shit hop away, so I will say yes here. 3. No This album is covered in bimbo touches, Boytrouble is a bimbo's charter, I see 17 year old girls with 40 inch breasts, 12 inch waists and 40 inch behinds and IQs of 65 squawking about boys, a lot of Hannah's vocals are a bit bimbo like as well. 4. 12 songs, but only 9 count, Plectrum Electrum is a instrumental breakdown, Boytrouble is crap and a songette and Mars is a skit like tiny song so NO. 5. Yes, there was a wide release and no restrictions on purchase, however release was skewed from place to place 6. No this never happened. Release of song off other album though. 7. No religion generally, but still a slightly nihilistic view of music, I'm so great songs and songs about girls with love problems. No pro gay songs though so NO. 8. There is practically no sex at all on this album, unrequited love and boytrouble mostly and a song about Prince telling his girl to find anotherlove. 9. Track listing and a few lyrics, good booklet so I will say Yes. . Overall Yes 4, No 5 . Art Official Age (Same points) . 1. Yes, this has a fresher, funkier feel and more soul than PLE 2. The first track is a bit larded down with samples, and there is a bit of a shit hop feel so NO. 3. NO a lot of talking by Lianne Lahavers or whatever her nome is, Andy Allo vocals and a list of bizarrely named exotic teenage and twenty something females on this album. 4. 13 ongs, but two talking skit songs, 1 song full of silly samples, but other 10 tracks are decent tracks, so I will give a YES here. 5. As above, so YES 6. Breakfast can wait came out first, but several months before the album, there was no real single push/promotion around release and still not now, so NO. 7. Songs like Time and way back home suggest New agey beliefs, but YES he has toned the JW crap and narrow mindedness. A bare YES 8. Yes - This could be us, You Know, Breakfast can wait, what if feels like are classic Prince sex jams, or about as sexy as he will get now. This could be us is quite explicit and works very well. 9. Big No, budget ass release, no booklet, bare track listing on back cover, tragic cheap cardboard covers and not even a tray for the disc, just hide it behind the covers!!! . Overall Yes 5 No 4 . So he is listening a bit, what do you guys think, do the new albums measure up?
Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name | |
