Love Never Has 2 Say Goodbye, yay or nay! This lil tune is such a nice ballad. A bit commercial, which some think is great. It is a bit corny but the music is wonderous. Emancipation had some decent outtakes. All you others say Hell Yea!!

It's a yay from me. He's definitely going for more of that Philadelphia Soul Creed/Bell vibe on this one.
Pretty melody, would have been quite lush with full production. I can see why it was an outtake though, chosen songs are stronger. Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

Yay. One of my favourite outtakes. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

Is this that Emancipation era sounding ballad that leaked last year or 2 years ago? If so, completely bland and unmemorable.

Nay. The 3:25 mark where he starts singing 'bye-bye'. Men don't say 'bye-bye'.... ever. The spoken ending sounds like something Michael Jackson would pout. [Edited 3/27/15 10:09am]

I love the instant animosity that Emancipation brings out in people. It's a real 'Marmite' album. I have a soft spot for it as it was early in my Prince listening. However, there is a lot of syrupy, highly/over- produced songs on there.
From this sort of time, there were so many outtakes not isolated to these: - She Gave Her Angels - Journey 2 The Center Of Your Heart - Goodbye - Love Never Has 2 Say Goodbye
Whilst 3 of that 4 were reused - by P or CK - the fact that he had probably 20 or 25 of this type of ballad floating around between 1994-96 shows how easy they are to write for him. Emancipation took the majority of them and Crystal Ball a few of the others.
I appreciate many of them as a platform for him to provide fantastic vocal performances. The production is 90s so they can feel a little lacking from a musical standpoint. This is obviously an easy vein for him to tap into - as many in love would attest. The most appreciated Prince songs though are those where he is wronged or lacking somehow. IIWYG, SAIMH, Purple Rain, Empty Room, Beautiful Ones, and such. I think that's the real reason these happier-themed 90s songs are overlooked.
As harsh as Askani's reply is, I tend to agree. It is quite bland and unmemorable about 30 minutes after I listen to it. Whilst it's playing though, it does its job. Sweet, well sung and effective.

I like it but I think it would be a lot better if it was edited and didn't include the "its time for healing ,it's time for forgiveness speech '' There's Joy in repetition

I agree. For me it feels a bit like Betcha By Golly Wow, very similar feel. Like Prince was trying to write a his own version of it it but decided to just go with the cover instead because he couldn't match the original.
I like it but do prefer Betcha By Golly. RIP

The chorus was a bit of a letdown for me when it finally leaked, but I still think it's a worthy song. I agree with others about the vocals. I may go as far as saying that the Emancipation era was his vocal peak. "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."
