I think One of Us and Crimson and Clover are AWESOME!! Those two songs make my best of Prince rock cds everytime.

His live version of 'Just My Imagination' at Small Club is my favorite, so heartfelt.

The only recorded cover of his that I don't like at all is 'I Can't Make U Love Me'.

He tried turning the song into something else and, no.

Crimson and Clover, I Believe in You, When Will We B Paid.

His cover of "Another Love" is amazing. I enjoy Alice Smith's original, but he took it to another level.

1. Crismon & Clover / Wild Thing -- I hope the writers of wild thing get some royalties for that track, even though it's not mentioned on the album cover

I doubt there were a whole lot of royalties to pay out, to be honest. $10 divided by 3 CD's divided by approx. 10 songs each.... yeah. Not a lot of per-track royalties went out for that album.

Ah yes, well in that case Crimson & Clover & Everyday... (which sounds to me like an updated version of Just As Long As We're Together; Just As doesn't really work, but this does).

(The only good version of One Of Us is in my opinion the Emancipation concert version; on record you can't even hear the guitar.)

I think you're a little harsh on your criticism of these songs, since afterall, they're covers of someone else's writing.

everyday is a winding road - ok, I actually agree that this is pretty horrible, but for every prince song someone doesn't like, there is always a fan that does like it, so to each their own

Being 'pretty sure' that Joni Mitchell likes his version, (she may have never even heard it) doesn't mean she actually did. He left out lyrcis and changed others. I love the way he plays piano and sings the song, but if you're going to leave it up to Joni's 'expertise' then you'd better be prepared for the reality that she might really hate it, too.

I'd say "Do Yourself A Favor" is his best, because he transformed it so well into his personal style. I have no love for his other covers.

I enjoy "A Case of You" and "Purple (in lieu of Red) House," though neither altogether bowls me over. I can't say I much enjoy any other of P's recorded covers.

That's an interesting one, but because Prince played on 94 East's original version I'm not sure I'd consider it a cover in the vein of the other songs mentioned here.

I agree Prince's solo version is quite good.

I know that everyone is entitled to their own opinions and all, but THAT^ the biggest bullshit that I ever readied. Anyone that didn't like Prince's excellent cover of those Philly soul classics has absolutely no respect for soul music at all.
